Advice on Geforce GTX 770 and 4K monitor

Hi all,

I was looking for a bit of advice. I was initially going to purchase the Samsung U28D590D 28 inch Ultra HDMI Monitor 4K monitor from Amazon. However, I've noticed that it uses HDMI 1.4 which only gives a max of 30Hz. It states if you want to hit the 60Hz max for gaming, then you'd need to use DisplayPort. Having checked the Nvidia GTX 770 specs on Nvidia's web-site, it states that DisplayPort max resolution is 4K (4096x2160 ), but on the Dell "Help Me Choose", it lists the 770's DisplayPort as only providing a max resolution of 2560x1600. Is that correct, or a typo?

Only reason I ask is that I've seen quite a few errors and typos on the Dell web-site and I want to make sure this is actually the case before I scrap the idea of getting Samsung 4K monitor.

Thanks in advance for the help!

*1 - 3840x2160 at 30Hz or 4096x2160 at 24Hz supported over HDMI. 4096x2160 (including 3840x2160) at 60Hz supported over Displayport. Support for 4k tiled MST displays requires 326.19 driver or later.

Hi Kel

Thanks for your reply but I think you might have misunderstood my post. That was the link I was referring to in my original post. The nVidia site suggests that the 770 CAN output at 4K via the display port, but Dell's web-site says the card they supply only outputs at 2560x1600 per card via the DisplayPort, as per this URL: http://www.dell.com/learn/uk/en/ukdhs1/help-me-choose/hmc-aw-video-card

The nvidia web-site you posted does say at the top "The below specifications represent this GPU as incorporated into NVIDIA's reference graphics card design. Graphics card specifications may vary by Add-in-card manufacturer." So this is why I'm unsure.

Before I spend £500 on a monitor, I want to be sure it will work, hence the original question.
