Alien Head Logo will not shut off at night.

I have perused the AlienwareFX tool and still cannot figure out how to permanently turn off the cycle of lights the logo head dispalys when the machine is powered off.

If it's there in the FX tool and I am just not seeing it then please point it out.

Thanks in advance!

i've done all of the following:

'Gone Dark'

'selected all zones and changed the color to black'

'gone to AlienFX and under 'Sleep Mode' changed all four zones to black.

powered down the unit -  alien head on the front of the machine still cycles through a set of colors.

put unit into sleep mode -  same behavior as above.

Go into your program files and find the Alienware and then Command Center folder. Scroll down to AlienwareAlienFXtester.exe. Run that and see if it passes please.

If it passes right click the Alienware icon in the taskbar and uncheck the " Enable 3rd party ". Shutdown, pull the power plug and hold the power button for 10sec. Reboot and see what happens.

Alienware Aurora R4 model chassis..

Pull the power plug and hold the power button for about 10sec. Then plug it back in. You will need to do this about every 10th shutdown.

Sadly, neither of those sets of steps worked. his little head keeps cycling through yelow, ornages and a bit of red whenever the machine is in a powered down state.  Any other ideas?

Yes. If it is not doing it just when it is powered down then you need to go to the sleep settings in the ACC, change it to something else or disable it. Go to AlienFX, then Advanced Mode and then the sleep tab.

Please post back if this didn't work, I have a few more tricks up my sleeve.

It passed, 'enable 3rd party' was already grayed out. i powered down, unplugged, held the power button for ten seconds then replugged the power and restarted the pc.  shut back down again and the mysterious cycle has resolved!

So your instructions are correct and thank you very much for the advice.

THANK YOU!

Hello, I am having this exact same problem with my new Aurora R4 system (which has just 2 days ago had its solid-state 512 GB drive replaced in an attempt to solve an intermittent "no bootable device" problem). The problem predated the disk drive replacement, and is still here. All drivers were reinstalled today, including command center, remotely by Dell. I'm frustrated to find that I'm still having the glowing/pulsing alien head light problem on shut down (and today, a fan also stayed on, and the computer clearly thought it was in sleep mode or something because I could not turn it on again until I held the power down for 10 seconds to make the machine actually turn off, even though I had told it to shut down and it appeared to be shut down). Grrrrr. So I just tried the instructions above, and got as far as trying to find anything called "AlienFXTest.exe" in my program files. It's not there. I have: Alienware>CommandCenter>AlienAdrenaline, AlienFusion, AlienFX Controller, AlienFX Editor, Alienware Command Center, and Thermal Controller. What do I need to do? Please help ... I'm tearing my hair out with all the problems and time I've had to spend trying to get this very expensive computer into a usable state ... I know the lights seem like a minor thing, but they don't feel minor to me, because I believe the computer thinks it's in sleep mode when it should be powered down. I don't want to have to yank out the power cord and force a power drain every time I turn the computer off. :-( Paula

Hello ojimon

Sorry to hear about the trouble you are having with your new R4.

I think the best thing for you to do is to contact Dell ASAP. It's a new system and just had a part replaced and from what you said it sounds like you are having a lot of issues with it. You will want Dell to do it so there is a record of what is going on with the system. If you happen to run into other issues and/or need parts replaced they may just do a system exchange at a certain point. So let them know what's going on and trouble shoot it from there end.

I hope everything works out for you and you get that beast of a system running like it should. One way or another Dell will make sure it performs so don't pull too many hairs out

Hi all, not sure if this will work on the Aurora R4's but I KNOW it works on the Aurora R2's, R3's and all Area 51's

1. Boot into system BIOS from startup (Hit F2 repeatedly)

2. Cycle through the different system BIOS menu's and look for something that says:

3. Enable power in S3.

4. Disable that function.

5. Save changes and exit BIOS

If you can find the S3 function in the Aurora R4 System BIOS then the above precedure should work

Good Luck
