AlienRespawn Backup utility

I purchased my machine 3 years ago.....Since then I have purchased the AlienRespawn upgrade to enable me to make a backup on an external hard drive (or so I thought).

I purchased a WD 3T My Book external hard drive and within minutes of starting the process I got an error message telling me that NO External Hard Drive Found. What? So, I retried the process many times and then contacted Support but was not able to get any help, just the run around. As I said, I purchased the upgrade, days before my warranty ran out but still yet no help....PLEASE HELP! I have got to get something figured out!

NOTE: The laptop has always been a little "iffy" on things that are plugged in or inserted into the disk drive. I often have to go through the entire process of going to My Computer and Clicking on the object in question. (This even happens after going to settings and manually instructing the programs or devices to Auto-run.)

Alien-Respawn is just an Alien-themed version of Dell Backup and Recovery (DBaR). IIRC, it replaced Dell DataSafeLocal (which was even older and ran on Vista/ Windows-7 systems only).

It doesn't seem to work properly under Windows-10.

You should use Microsoft's included Windows-10 Backup Imaging or third-party software like Macrium Reflect or Acronis.

Hi,

Have you tested all of the USB ports to confirm if the same issue happens? Can you confirm the Bios version that you're running with the system?

Thank you for your input. Today, like many other days, I spent checking my drivers one more time and checking for updates. I did many things; from reinstalling the firmware for the External Hard Drive to running all kinds of other diags and updates. It wasn't until I went to open AlienRespawn as usual that things seemed to happen (or change); it took a LONG time for Respawn to "load" but when it was done I was able to finally backup my system for the first time ever! :)

Thanks again
