Hello,

For us to better assist you, can you please confirm the model name and revision for your Alienware system? Also, can you explain how you are trying to recover your data with the USB and what exactly happens that it doesn't let you?

This happens to me as well.  I have contacted technical support on many occasions and they said they haven't heard of any issues.

I have a AW 15 (Early 2015).  I have upgraded and did a fresh install as well to test this issue.  What happens is upon making the "factory recovery media" the process completes.  I have used USB and also external Hard drive.  I also wanted to burn discs, which I did but the process always fails (makes sound like the cd drive is being disconnected and reconnected multiple times from usb port).  This didn't happen in windows 8.1.  In other words.  It succeeds on the USB flash drive and on the USB external Hard drive, but not on discs.

So after completion of creating the recovery USB factory image and also on the external hard drive, I ran a "test recovery".  I booted from the USB and ran the backup.  Alienrespawn states it cannot repair the drive and would like to reinstall the OS. Everything failed on repair except for the "GUID Partition table".  Apparently there is an issue with the software recognizing the partitions.  Anyways, after it states it will reinstall the OS, it goes halfway through and then says "an error has occurred".  I hit "restart" to restart the computer and get a blue screen saying windows cannot boot.  So I have to do a fresh reinstall everytime.  I also tested this with the recovery USB and got the same issue.  Please fix.

Hi Guys,

I have a M17X-R4 and have experienced similar problems.

my system crashed after doing Windows updates and I had to attempt a recovery.  Fortunately I had done a system backup on both external HDD and USB.  Tried the USB first and got nowhere, recovery data not being found.  Switched to the HDD where the first two attempts failed.  On the third attempt I got a box pop up where I was able to select which system recovery device I wanted to use.  Selecting the HDD I had a full recovery before I new it.  I then recovered all my data which I had backed up to a separate HDD.  I guess at times perseverance pays although it doesn't explain the first few glitches.
