Hi,
The video cards are embedded into the motherboard on this model so you cannot upgrade the video card, you would need another motherboard containing an upgraded GPU. Unfortunately, since this is one of our older models, upgrades for this unit may be difficult to find now and days.

Hi
Thanks for the help, and if i were to upgrade the motherboard with a higher gpu, would the card be upgradable? Also is an external card possible? I have seen a few videos that seem reasurring this is possible. Thanks for the help!

Hi,
If you were to upgrade the motherboard with a higher GPU, that GPU will also have to be embedded into the motherboard, that was the way it was designed for it to fit properly, so unfortunately no, it cannot be upgraded. To use an external GPU, you would require some sort of graphics amplifier, we do make an Alienware graphics amplifier but its only supported with the newer models known as the Echo models (example=Alienware 13 R1/R2, Alienware 15 R1/R2 and Alienware 17 R2/R3).

No. The Graphics Amplifier only works with the 2015 laptops, 13 R1, and X51 R3.
Remember that even if you could use an external graphics card, the GPU will be bottlenecked by the CPU in the m11x.

If you want leaps in performance, you'll need to buy a new computer. The m11x (all three revisions) is pretty low-end currently and some laptops with integrated graphics can do better than it.
Another way to boost performance is to overclock the GPU, but given the m11x's cooling capabilities, I don't advise doing such a thing.

By using something like Nvidia Inspector. You could see a 10% increase with the right overclock, but you'll have to keep your temperatures in mind. If it gets too hot, then the overclock would have been for naught.
I seriously suggest you to invest in a new laptop as even an overclock may not get what you want.

ok then thanks for the help.
If i cant boost performance on this, then what might be the next best laptop to run something like planetside 2? It seems like the 13 alienware can do it? Thanks alot :P

Get a laptop that fits your needs and budget. It doesn't need to be an Alienware.
I would assume most gaming and multimedia laptops sold currently can handle the games you want to play.
