Alienware 14 and Windows Server 2012 R2 Installation Issues
I recentelyI recently bought an Alienware 14 ALW14-2814sLV 14-Inch Gaming Laptop and I am facing a LOT of problems with drivers trying to instal Windows Server 2012 R2 on it. (I dont use it for games)
Could you guys point me the correct drivers ? (it is probably the same for windows 8.1)
Thanks

Obviously, Windows Server 2012-R2 is not a supported OS for this machine.
Drivers are here:
http://www.dell.com/support/troubleshooting/us/en/19/KCS/KcsArticles/ArticleView?c=us&l=&s=dhs&docid=536193
and
http://ftp.dell.com/published/Pages/alienware-14.html
I must ask ... why are you trying to do this. What are you trying to accomplish?
Also see this:

nVidia Optimus might also be a problem.
Depending on your objectives, it would probably run better on an old Vista desktop from the closet (if it has enough RAM). If just for training, maybe Virtualize on top of Win8-64 (or whatever AW-14 came with).

Hey Tesla, thanks for your reply. So I bought a computer that I cannot install the lastest version of Windows. Thats is so cool !!!! (lesson learned. read first before buy)
I dont use it for games. I dont play games. I like alienware because I need for high performance stuff related to my work and It need to be the server line. I will donwload the Server 2012 and try it. theoretically it is ths same drivers as windows 8.0.

It's a gaming laptop. Therefore, you CAN run the latest version of DESKTOP Windows.
Win 8.1 Professional is what Businesses and Engineers run on their laptops now-days so that should work fine.
However, for businesses and professionals ... a Latitude or Precision is a better choice. That's what I always tell people, and you are not the first to make this miss-step. Have had some CAD users come here complaining of CAD apps (OpenGL) performance on consumer (gaming) GPU chips. But again, it's the wrong machine for this use.
This applies to Alienware Desktops as well (due to MIO-Board and required OS specific 64-bit drivers) but it's not as bad. Most Aurora's should be able to get to Win8.1 but Win-9 is very questionable. Luckily, if push-comes-to-shove ... MIO-Board could conceivably be disconnected, and most MIO-Board functions can be duplicated with other inexpensive hardware.
