Alienware 15 - Connecting 4k Monitor BSOD

I have an Alienware 15 Laptop with a 4k screen.

If I connect a HDMI or Mini-Display Port cable to a 4k monitor, my laptop will immediately crash and BSOD.

If I connect it to a monitor that is non-4k it works.

I owned a duplicate model of the Alienware 15 with a non-4k screen, but had the same GPU (970M) and drivers and I was able to successfully connect to my 4k monitor. The issue must lie in the BIOS or firmware.

Any suggestions?

What is the BSOD error code and cause by driver you are getting?

Try to uninstall the integrated video card and the NVidia drivers and download the latest versions you find in the Dell support website and install them in the same order, the Intel video card first and then the NVidia.

Please let me know if this helps you fixing the problem.

I have the same issue.

I was a on a call with  Alienware support and we reinstalled all the graphic card driver- the integrated Intel ones as well as the GTX 980m driver.

The issue still persisted and the rep told me they have also had the same complaint from another customer and he will escalate it to Engineering. I have not heard back from him for over a month.

I get the following BSOD message when I plug in the HDMI or Display Port cable

PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA (igdkmd64.sys)

But some times right after plugging in the cable I get a BSOD with ntoskrnl.exe error

I have checked the cables with my other laptops including a Macbook and they connect fine with the Monitor.

I have a Dell 4K 2415Q monitor.

Just for testing purposes.

Could you try connecting the Computer to the 4K monitor *without* the Power Adapter? (Just make sure that the computer has enough charge for a quitck 5-10 min. test).
