Alienware 17 GPU Fan Stops Working

Hi,
I have an Alienware 17 and I noticed my GPU Fan stopped working when my FPS dropped. The GPU was running around >90C.

So to opened up my back and cleaned the GPU fan and it was still not working.

Then i put the GPU fan in the CPU fan slot and it was working.

I also tried to put the CPU fan in the GPU fan slot, and that was not working.

So I decided to replace the 'Daughterboard/Motherboard' where the GPU fan is as shown below:

The problem seemed to have fixed, but then started again.

So i opened up my laptop again and refit the new motherboard, just to make sure and it was fixed.

Now, the problem is that this fan keeps on dying after a few days and I have to open up my laptop and when i close it, magically the fan starts.

I then decided to get a voltmeter to check if there was anything happening in the GPU connection:

Here are my results:

Pins 1 - 2 = ~0.10V

Pins 1 - 3 = ~0.30V

Pins 1 - 4 = ~2.50V

I do not know which pin is what and how much voltage the GPU fan needs.

But if anyone can help me fix my problem I would be thankful to them

It's likely the laptop version of a standard 4-pin PWM fan. I would start here (also see the Google Images):

If it is PWM, it's a brushless motor that runs on phases (not straight DC voltage). I suggest replacing the fan. Fans go bad or flakey all the time.

And not sure how you came to the determination that's it's hardware. Something like SpeedFan or one of the GPU overclock utilities might be able to over-ride and force-control it or set to a manual RPM.

But if the fan is not working, why does the GPU fan work in the CPU fan slot?

If the problem followed the fan then you would not be posting here.

You said it quit working, so that doesn't count as "working".
