Alienware 17 R2 - Battery temporary disabled

Hello all, as the title suggests I have a AW 17R2 that displays the following message at post.

"This battery is temporary disable, please turn off the computer and

Strike the F1 key to continue, F2 to run the setup utility"

I've tried reseating the battery connection.

Wiggling the battery terminal where it plugs into the motherboard.

Partial power drain (Coin cell battery removal require motherboard removed :(  )

Fn and F2 key to supposedly re-enable the battery.

Nothing has worked, I thought as this model has intel dynamic platform thermal framework there may be an adjustment inside command center but there is none.

The only thing I have not tried is a complete power drain by removing all power sources, the coin cell battery (from what I can tell) is located on the underneath of the motherboard, requiring the motherboard to be removed to do a complete power drain (Nice forward thinking there....)

Specs are:

i7 4910HQ

16GB Memory

GTX980M

512GB NGFF SSD

Killer WiFi & BT 1525

Windows 8 Pro

240W PSU

Anyone got any other suggestions

Hi,

Check the battery health in the Bios under the Advanced tap and confirm what it shows there. Also, run an ePSA/Diagnostic test on the system. To do this, tap the F12 button during boot and select the ePSA or Diagnostics option. This test will take several minutes, let us know if you receive any errors. Also, can you confirm how the battery shows in Windows (in the taskbar)?

Hello and thanks for your reply.

Battery shows are temporarily disabled in system BIOS.

I will run ePSA and let you know the results.

I also have completed a full power drain, including removing the coin cell battery and the system still shows as "Battery disabled".

I will also let you know what the battery indicator displays in icon/notification

Just ran the ePSA and all results displayed a green tick - no problems.

This is the message displayed under "battery" in system BIOS.

This battery is temporary disable, please turn off the computer, reseat the AC adapter and try again when the unit is back to operational temperature

I've tried two different AC adapter - one 180W and one 240W - Both with the same message

Hello,

Thank you for confirming this. It seems like you have tried all of the recommend troubleshooting procedures for this type of issue, it could be a motherboard failure. If your system is still in warranty, send me a PM with your service tag for further assistance.

That's a worry if it's true.

Those are supposed to be Li Ion, not Ni Cad

Check the line design voltage and it list 15000 mw so it is the coin cell battery
