Already send you information for your record...At this point I am waiting for final decision from Dell. Check the ticket number. Really i want to keep the machine, like it but this problem is from 2016 and Alienware has not fix the production flaw. I think is time Alienware recognize the flaw and replace everyone 4K LCD with something that work.
My biggest issue is that keep selling this units knowing that the LCD Bleed is there!
So here a update, I just got a call today, they are sending next week a new LCD screen and a new bezel that according to Quality control must fix the issue. This are not the parts going out from their production line. The Quality control team will be in my office. We will see if this will fix the issue once and for all.
I got my LCD replace today, I was promise a new LCD screen. I got a refurbish LCD and now the Bleed is worst! This is the last Alienware Notebook or Dell. I ask the tech to put the old LCD back, he didnt comply. So I dont want to use the unit anymore. It is bad.
I just received my Alienware 17 R4 2017 last week. I've not been able to use it yet due to the horrible, awful performance issues of this laptop. My 5 year-old M17 R3 circa 2012 is faster than this machine. I decided to download the Dell recovery image for it and it's installing as I type this.
Point being, I noticed not only the horrible bleed-through of the display but it appears I have a dead pixel. I will be calling Alienware about this and I am hoping they will replace the screen. It's not even a week old.
I was able to get Quality Control using our company account reps. They are special ordering a replacement unit, will be verify by quality control department and hand delivered. We will see how it goes after 5 replacement unit and one crap lcd exchange. This will be the 6 unit and I hope they get it right.
So yesterday I received my 6 replacement unit hand delivery by Quality Control from Dell. The issue still there. At this point Dell need to switch LCD brands. I dont think they can fix this issue..
This is the current system during game play!
I am waiting to see what are they going to do now. Anyone out there with the New 4K UHD Pannel with G-Sync screen that can provide if the bleeding issue is there?
Ok guys, I am done. I got a Engineer from Dell Quality Control to check the LCD after the 6 replacement unit. He took the feedback to try to fix this issue. After 3 weeks, no fix to this system that people had been reporting this issue from 2016. I am returning the system for a full refund. Last Alienware I will buy and I can not recommend this brand to anyone I know. Time to test a Razor Pro.
This problem actually goes back to 2015, as it first impacted the Alienware 17 R3, which was the first 17" with a 4K display option. I got a brand new unit delivered in Oct of 2015 (pre-ordered in Sep 2015, which is another story), and immediately noticed the screen bleed (you can see the discussion here: https://na.alienwarearena.com/ucf/show/251799/boards/technical-support-1/ForumPost/uhd-back-light-bleed ). I actually went through 1 swap, and when I got the replacement unit, it had the problem too. So, I decided to just wait, as I still had the full warranty period to get it fixed. Over time, the bleed problem seemed to improve. Now, my 2 year old 17 R3 has much less back-light bleed. It is almost like the seals around the display settle over time, and blockout more light. Good luck!
I received my new Alienware 17R4 and immediately noticed the bleed upon turning it on. I patched and updated the bios and graphics but that did nothing. I just got off the phone with tech support and apparently unless I want the machine cracked open and swapped with refurbished parts I have to call another phone number to cancel this order and facilitate an exchange for a new machine. The tech told me this was not a known issue and that they did have 17 R4s with display 3840 x2160 400 bit GSync there that do not bleed. I asked... because my old Alienware M17xR2 screen is one piece all the way across - there is no plastic surrounding the screen and the bleed is coming from where the plastic intersects with the screen. I wanted to be sure that a good quality screen visual is possible so I don't have to go through the hold time, phone conversation, paper work, etc. that is required for the return only to have this happen again.
Then I did a search and found this thread. I will return it and not do an exchange as it appears I will need to wait until they resolve the issue.
I only uploaded one shot - but at times my screen looks EXACTLY like yours. It bleeds on black making it appear gray. Like there is some kind of flash light behind the screen.
It is incredible that Dell keep saying that their is no issue with the Alienware 17R4. After 6 replacement unit and one of them hand delivered by Quality Control of Dell (that he was able to see the issue), I return the unit for a full reimbursement. I will not recommend this until Dell accept the issue that is been happening from 2016 (Look online).
Dont accept refurbish part, ask for a full replacement but I dont thing they will be able to fix it. Just get your money and Get something else. I just order a Razer Blade Pro 17. Will see. Check HP are getting good review.
Dell always do this, they dont want to accept the issue until star loosing customer.
I do not want refurbished parts so I opted for a return. Obviously I won’t reorder until this is resolved.
I do not want any other machine. I have a 17xR2 that I have ordered parts for via ebay as this machine is old and parts are now hard to come by… I will try and keep it running until they fix this problem and I can rebuy the R4.
Alienware machines are a problem. But they run hard and play fair. They are like boats which stand for “Bring over another thousand” as you pour money into a hole in the water. But you’ll do it with a smile on your face.
Every piece of hardware out there right now are not boats – they aren’t even cars… they are a Prius. And I won’t bleed cash for that. I won’t give you the time of day for that. Current hardware gets need money not want money. It doesn’t have to be that way. But nobody asks “us.”
So I’ll wait for the machine that will give me trouble and cost me more – and I’ll wait smiling ; )
I just received my new Alienware 17 R4, excited, until I notice the same light bleed issue:
I took a picture of my 4 years old Macbook Pro 15' to compare, and here it is:
The white spot on the lower right side is just the mouse arrow
Is this seems normal to others? Or maybe because I'm a professional Designer/Artist, so I'm more sensitive.
I need a power for PC to run some PC-only 3D modeling/design/illustration program, that's why I'm buying a PC; and considering the reputation of Alienware, I clicked the order button. Anyway, hopefully my issue will be solved soon.
