Alienware 17 i7 4930MX Overheating
Hi,
Whenever I tried to render a video in adobe premiere pro or try to play any sort of games the CPU will hit around 95+ C. I have repasted a couple of times tried both arctic silver 5 and MX2 but still not luck. Bios is A05 which is the latest. I also tried using HWinfo64 but when i set the custom fan speed the GPU fan seems to be not working at all when I enable the custom fan options. Is there any other way that I can adjust the fan speed to BOTH CPU and GPU?
Thanks

No, not at the current time. A fix should be forthcoming.
This is a known issue with the Alienware 18 and we have seen some reports of it with the Alienware 17 as well. The fans do not work correctly. They are slow to respond and rarely ever spin up to full speed.
If you attempt to manually take control of fan operation as we have in the past, using HWiNFO64 or SpeedFan, it makes matters worse because shuts off the GPU fan(s) completely and the video cards begin to overheat.
This is exacerbated with the 4930MX CPU. The default voltage is more than necessary. You may want to look into lowering your Core Voltage with XTU. You should be able to run as high as 4.3GHz with only 1.165V-1.175V as opposed to the 1.200V default. If you are not overclocking, you can probably get away with 1.100V-1.125V to help bring the temps down.

Does the fan ever turn fast? Like during startup or running diags? Think it might just be a bad fan or broken wire, etc.?

During start up no. Running diagnostics yes. both fans seem to be working when i am playing games or rendering cpu fan usually goes crazy loud i thought the i7 4930mx supposedly coming with a triple pipe heatsink but when i took it apart i only see a double pipe heatsink. I really puzzled right now of what i can possibly do to this laptop to make the cpu run cooler. CPU temps are idling at avg 45 c ish and during load it can hit as high as 100 c. when i render a video laptop just shuts off

Is there any update yet as to fixing the Bios options? Having the same issue with my laptop and its been 8 months since this issue was found. Hopefully some progress has been made. Thank you!

If you use the latest BIOS you can take control of your fans with HWiNFO64. If you want the Haswell CPU to run cool you will need to use Liquid Ultra thermal paste. It made a gigantic difference with my 4930MX CPU.
