Alienware Alpha Help - Desktop Mode
Hey, just received my Alpha today. Its set up and works great in console mode. However, I connect my wireless Logitech keyboard, reboot the unit, and never get the screen that allows me to select desktop mode. I can use the arrow keys etc. on the keyboard so I know its connected.
What am I missing?

In order to get into the Desktop mode you have to go into the Alpha UI, and then go to power and select Go to desktop, make sure the keyboard is connected otherwise that option will be grayed out.

Ok, I found it. However the Alpha UI screen shots I've seen have shown icons of a controller and a mouse to make this selection more intuitive. Did you do away with this option upon release? Check this image .

On the console UI screen, on the top right click to turn off, then scroll down to Desktop Mode. Wallaaa you are there. To return, on the desktop hit the steam icon, then in steam hit big picture top right back to steam big picture.

yeah I'm actually loving mine. I was able to free up almost 500 gigs off my alienware notebook just removing all of steam and origins and the convenience of just chillaxing back on the couch. Going from steam gaming to full 8.1 windows desktop for work or emails is extraordinary super convenient to just do everything right off the main living room 70 inch smart TV. We are super stoked and loving it. Can't wait till they come up with or probably already need to research a touch pad to work with the 8.1 right off the couch sorta like a wii pad or windows pad. Gotta see if that's out there to add to it but 10 star rating here to it works fantastic. I mean there is some kinks but its early updates and firmware updates will iron out.

Cool, glad you are liking it.
Ya, I have a Win-7 gaming capable XBMC server in the home theater. I can use the plasma TV or projector for movies or gaming in 1080p.
I like my wireless Logitech keyboard/mouse. Much better range than my old set.

Hey I have a quick question not in sleep mode but with the alpha being completely off can u turn it on from.thw keyboard 1 key click haven't figured that out yet let me know if u can I know u can shut down easy from it but can u start it feom.the keyboard as well not wake but complete start? Gotta completely get up and push the button right ...

I'm searching for a new problem, I don't have the Desktop mode listed in the new UI when I click power :( how do I get to my desktop? I'm really hating this new update!!!!!!!!! was so much easier before now its not working, cant find ***.

WELL IM ALSO NOT LIKING IT TO MUCH CAUSE REALY MOST OF ALL THAT *** ADDONS THEY ADDED IS BLOUT *** AND DOESNT WORK EXTENTIONS R BROKIN AND NOT WORKING SPECIALY WITH THE NEW WINDOWS 10 BUT TUR QUESTION WHEN U BOOT UP AFTER THE ALIEN EYE WHERE U GET THE SCREEN WITH THE MEDIA OPTION LOOK TO THE LEFT BOTTOM CORNER THERE IS A ROUND CIRCLE CLICK THAT ONCE A WINDOW POPS UP MIDDLE SCREEN SCROLL TO DESKTOP VIEW IF THIS IS NOT COMING UP THE SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH UR BOOT INSTALL PLATFORM U PROBABLY NEED TO RESTORE TO DAYS AGO WHEN IT WAS WORKING OK HOPE THIS HELPS SR TOOK A WHILE BEEN AWAY JUST BOOTED UP MY ALPHA.
