Alienware Alpha R2 boot issue with LG 55E6V
Hi everyone... I've called Dell support but nobody solved my problem. I bought (16 August 2016) a GTX 960 Alienware Alpha R2. Everything was fine with a old Samsung 1080p LCD TV until I got a new 4K TV (LG 55E6V). When I plug HDMI cable (original box cable) directly from PC to LG TV and I turn on both, the Alienware does not boot and TV says "no signal". If I try to plug the PC with a SyncMaster PC monitor it boot without problems, then (while PC has desktop screen connected to SyncMaster) I switch HDMI cable and connect to the LG TV: everything works fine (Resolution: 2160p 60Hz). Then I shutdown the PC, I restart it and I get the same issue: no Alienware boot and "no signal" on the LG TV. It seems that Alienware can not detect LG TV while it's booting and (maybe as factory choice) it decide not to boot. How can I solve this? Thank you [:)]

Hi Campbchris. I personally got a solution... It's not so good but it works. The issue is inside the Alienware UEFI Secure Boot (code is written wrong probably). So the only thing to do is using the Windows standard boot. In order to get this you need to disable the option "Secure Boot" in "Boot" section via UEFI BIOS. Just connect the Alpha with a PC monitor and change this parameter. Your PC starts less faster but it works with the LG TV.
PS I can't send you a private email because my server says (AOL will not accept delivery of this message)

Hello, I just received my Alienware Alpha R2 w/ GTX 960, and am having the same problem with my 4k LG HDTV (60UH8500). No signal. Does not appear to boot at all (turns off instantly when pressing power button). I plugged it in to an old 19" Vizio TV nearby, and it booted fine.
When I get home tonight, I will try disabling "Secure Boot" as loleba stated, but it would be great if a BIOS update could solve this issue. any updates?
Thanks,
Dan

My guess is either an EDID problem or HDMI-Negotiation trouble:

Disabling Secure Boot in the BIOS did indeed solve the problem!

Has there been any progress on this issue? I just purchased a new Alpha R2 from dell about 2 weeks ago. I'm having the same issue. If my R2 is connected to my LG OLED TV it will not boot. The screen displays "no signal". There is nothing wrong with the TV. I have plugged other devices into that same HDMI port using the same cable and they come up on the screen with no issue. I tested this with an xbox one, apple tv, and my old custom build PC.
Is Dell going to do anything about this or should I return it while I'm still in the return window?

Hello,
I just got an Alienware Alpha R2 and am using it to connect to an LG OLED TV and I have the same problem. It will not boot. I tried disabling the Secure Boot function from the BIOS to address this issue, but now each time I restart the computer, it gets stuck loading windows and goes back to the Alienware boot screen and this process repeats about 3 times before I get a message that the windows has encountered an issue and cannot start. If I enable Secure Boot, WIndows can start again. Has anyone else experienced this problem and for those that got it working by disabling Secure Boot, any other settings you had to change? Thanks a lot.

Hi vf1, I just stumbled upon your post. Since it's been over a month, I'm guessing you have a resolution by now, or gave up on it. Just wanted to let you know that I don't recall having to make any other changes or modifications to BIOS or Windows settings to get things working. Sorry! However, I do see that there was a BIOS updated released Oct 23 which may or may not affect this issue. If I get up the nerve to update and toggle the UEFI setting, I'll report back with my findings. (I'm old now, and subscribe to the practice of, if it ain't broke, don't fix it!) -Dan
