Alienware Alpha - migrate to SSD after Windows 10 update?

I just got an Alienware Alpha i3, and I updated successfully to Windows 10. What is the best way for me to back up my HDD and restore to an SSD? I tried uninstalling Respawn, and reinstalling the latest Respawn with no luck, and I read that Respawn doesn't work well in Windows 10.

Thank you.

Hi,

Unfortunately, there have been reports about Alien Respawn not working properly with Windows 10. You could try using Dell Backup and Recovery (DBaR) instead. Click here to view a Dell article that explains how to use this tool and it also includes the download link.

As for Respawn/DBaR ... I think the time to use that was before upgrading to Win-10 ... on Win7/8 I think you can use that to create a factory Recovery drive on a large flash drive. Conceivably, it should be able to return machine to it's factory software state. However, it might not restore to a SSD (unless machine shipped that way).

You might be able to use Microsoft System Image Backup

But I'm not sure how "portable" that image file is (to accomplish what is basically a drive cloning).

Personally, I think I would just use Macrium Reflect Free.

and finally ...

If there is not much on Alpha, and you know how to clean install Windows and load drivers you should be able to clean install Win-10 (from .ISO) to a blank SSD. Just make sure all drivers and special Dell software is available for download before you start. It might prove challenging to build up Alpha from scratch.

I just wrote a post about some of this ...
