Alienware Aurora R1 keeps going into windows startup repair

Hi all,

During the recent hurricane, my power skipped a few times, after which it would shut down then start back up again.  Since then, I keep getting windows start-up repair, and it doesn't do anything.  Does anyone know how to fix this issue?  I began thinking that it is a PSU problem, but I want to try to save as much money as I can and do not want to needlessly buy parts.

Hmmm, before Windows starts up, try jamming F8 and picking Last Known Good Configuration and see if that stops it.

You could also possibly use a restore point that was made before this happened.

I will try this later, but do you know if this type of issue is usually hardware related or software related?

Wow, hope the damage from the hurricane was minimal (outside of the comp)!

What happens if you just cancel the start up repair out?

Yeah, a couple trees fell in the back, but luckily everything else is ok.

I haven't tried it yet, but during the repair, I select restore and it just starts up normally then.  However, the problem persists each time I turn the computer on, so it hasn't been helpful.

Can be either and that is the first thing you must determine.

Start by running Dell Diags (outside of Windows) to test hardware. Inside Windows, Error Check all drives and read detailed summary when finished.

Also, get yourself a good UPS Battery (like an APC unit). This problem would likely be avoided if one was installed at time of storm.

There will be many more storms. Next time Shut-Down computer properly and completely. Never let power be interrupted while inside Windows (this is very bad for all sorts of reasons).
