Alienware Aurora R4 - Upgrading GTX 555

I am looking to replace my GTX 555 in my Alienware Aurora R4. I have noticed that most GPUs are like doubletall, or have dual dvi ports. The GTX 555 is very thin, and from glancing at the inside of my Aurora R4, there is not a lot of room.

Should I just get a new GTX 555, or can I get bigger cards, that have the doublestack, and are much larger then this card.

I don't know what I should get. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Mitch

If you like nVidia cards (instead of AMD) a nVidia 770 card should work nicely and not too expensive. Most eVGA nVidia cards have lifetime warranty.

I would work toward a single-card solution. Yes, most nice ones are double-slot-wide.

There are plenty of websites that review video cards and performance.

Looks like I didn't fully read your reply.

The card you suggested has 2 dvi/vga ports. Which I thought was the double stack style. I'm confused :(

Holy moley! $$350~!! Man. Maybe I should list my budget. I am looking to spend no more then $$200.00.

Thanks for the quick reply and suggestion! So was I right in assuming that I can't use the doublestack GPUs and only certain ones will fit inside my aurora r4?

It looks like buying a replacement gtx 555 for $69.00 is my best bet. The card has lasted about 3 years and I can play all the games on reasonable settings and good enough FPS to satisfy my competitive gaming needs :P

I can do some research on my own if I can just know for certain if its only certain cards that will fit. None the less, thanks for the reply!

No. Any single card will fit.

Did your single GTX-555 fail, and you are looking to pull it out and replace it with another single card?

Yes my single GTX-555 just died. I am looking to replace it, rather then upgrade it. I will likely just try to find another GTX555(although I am having a tough time trying to find an online vendor who sells it).

I had no idea GPUs could be so pricey. I am satisfied with the performance of the gtx-555, and usually never lag. Thanks for answering my question. My next mission is to find someone selling the gtx-555.

$227

Right. If he can't afford a 770 ... he could go 660 or 760 ... but that's barely an upgrade over 555. I posted for him to clarify objective.

Ah interesting. That would explain why they are so hard to find online.

I wouldn't mind switching to AMD, I just want to make sure it is absolutely compatible, and can fit in my PC. And of course within my budget.

See after forking out so much money on my Alienware, i'm sort of tired of broke/on a budget and have to be very frugal.

Is there an AMD card similiar to the GTX-555(performance wise), for around $100-$150.00? I can do some research on my own, but it's always nice to get someone knowledgeable who knows or is willing to lend a helping hand. If you feel like you have helped me enough by all means, just say do your own research, and i'll be on my way. You have helped me with my original question. But yeah, if an AMD card for around 150$ that can perform well(no lag in Starcraft 2, no lag and around 120-190 FPS in Counter-Strike : Global Offensive, 300 FPS in Counter-Strike : Source(the max fps is CS:S is 300, which I was able to achieve with the GTX555)

Kindest Regards

Yes my single GTX-555 failed/died.

Oh, ok.

You know, if I had bought a nVidia GTX-555 that dies after only a couple of years ... I would be looking toward AMD.

nVidia 5xx cards are discontinued. Even 6xx cards are too (that's why you see them heavily discounted).

Oh okay.

Yes my single GTX-555 failed/died. I am going to pull it out and replace it with most likely another GTX-555(If I can find where to purchase one. I have been looking and looking and can only find one online vendor selling one.).

I had no idea GPUs could be so expensive. And I am quite satisfied with the performance of this 555, although it didn't last too long.

I appreciate the responses. I am just going to keep searching for a replacement gtx-555.

Regards!
