Hello Cygnus95!

I apologize for the inconvenience!

Have you reset the cmos battery or have you tried to unplug the LAN cable and then turn off the computer?

How do I reset the battery?

Would I have to unplug the cable every time I shut off my computer?

You have to open the side panel, and in top of the video card you will find the coin battery, remove it and put it back in.

And if the issue got resolved by removing the LAN cable then we need to change a setting on the device manager.

I've waited a few days before responding to see if your advice worked. I puled the cable while shutting down my computer a few days ago and sense then it hasn't restarted. Still, sometimes it goes a few days with no problems so I don't want to say the issue's completely fixed. I need to change settings I guess?

I just wanted to say that last night my computer restarted again. I'll try resetting the battery next time I clean it, probably sometime in the next couple weeks.

To anyone having this issue and an alienware desktop. If you press shutdown and it restarts it's the panel that controls the led. So the easy fix is move one of the three small switches on the card located on that panel. Those small switches control the led light color. When u do this. It will reset it and our computer would shut down normally. Hope I can help

Can you provide more details on this?  Which panel for which LED?  A diagram would be best but any more info would help, thanks.

FYI, my alienware still restarts sometimes when I want it to shut down.

OK, I will try it tonight.  By moving the switches, does it disable or alter the LED lights?

Thanks for the quick reply.

Thanks for posting that. I'll give it a shot next time I clean my PC.

Though it's probably worth saying that this problem has just about gone away for me. It only very, very rarely restarts anymore. I have no idea why it just stopped, but it did. Like I said, I'll try this anyway. So, thanks.

I don't see it when I open my left side panel.  So is there another way to fix my shut down problem? Thanks.

Just opened the computer but I failed to locate this part.  Can you please provide more detail?  Thanks.
