Alienware Command Center

Since I upgraded to Windows 10 I keep receiving this message "The device you have selected is included in the current theme but AlienFX cannot detect this device on your system.  Do you want to remove this device from the current theme?" and command center won't work. I have uninstalled and re-installed it.  I have updated my BOIS to A5 and nothing that I have tried works.  I have an alienware R4 system.  I'm at my wits end...what can I do?

Alienware R4 doesn't mean anything to me, you have an Aurora, like mine?

When you power up, do you get exterior lights at all? If you do, that's a good sign the AlienFx MIO daughterboard is working in some capacity.

No lights? Bad sign. #1, MIO needs power & its USB connector plugged into the motherboard usb header.

I participated in this thread: Aurora R1 AlienFX doesn't work ... what I posted are links to other help threads I was part of, for instance, the Area-51 post shows screen shots of Device Manager & AlienFxTester.exe ...

if you can see your MIO Filter Driver listed as opposed to an unknown device, that's a good sign ...

if AlienFxTester.exe fails to register your MIOs 'current firmware version', that measn it is being detected. When items like your desktop are not in the current theme, they aren't detected, meaning MIO isn't detected, so you have to fix that, even if that means buying a new one (eBay etc)

If / when yours is detected, exterior lights should come on (with or without CmndCntr installed); we like to install CmndCntr 3.5 or 3.6 in Win8.1 Compatibility Mode, followed by setting your system fans to manual, as opposed to 'auto' fans which spazz out. I've typed 50 'how to get lights back' posts, I can;t type another one step-by-step, just click my links, read up, see what you figure out ... can you handle all that?

I can induce this screen with my FIO usb unplugged

  • either your usb cable is unplugged or your MIO board is spazzing out
