Alienware FX lights not working.

Hi there everyone, I have an Alienware 17 and for a long time the lights worked perfectly fine. Then one day I turn the laptop on and the lights didn't turn on. I have looked over the forum posts and done the following: updated bios, reinstalled the command centre around 12 times, updated every driver I could think of and restarted the laptop too many times to count.

Nothing has worked. The room feels so dark now. I get this error message when I open the command centre:

"The device you have selected is included in the current theme but AlienFX cannot detect this device on your system.  Do you want to remove this device from the current theme?"

Or the other message: "There was an error while AlienFX Controller was communicating with the computer. This might have been caused due to a problem with the hardware or the software.Try these solutions to correct the issue, in the following order:

- Try to enable AlienFX Controller again. Right-click on the AlienFX icon in the Windows notification area and select 'Enable Alienware AlienFX'.
- Shut down your computer and power it back on.

If neither of these solutions works, please contact Alienware technical support.
This error may also be caused if Alienware AlienFX software is installed on a computer without the proper hardware support for Alienware AlienFX."

Nothing changed with my laptop the night before it stopped working and nothing else was installed that day.

Anyone got any ideas as to what the issue could be? Please help?

You mean the original Alienware image or are you referring to a Command Center AlienFX Theme?

We currently don't have an Alienware image, you can get all the Alienware apps from the drivers page and wallpapers from the web.

Thanks, this worked for me.  I've had the computer for one whole day and this happened.  And there is no externally accessible switch to disconnect the battery; instead, there are seven screws.  I think those seven screws and I are in for a lot of screwing...

Some laptops (like my Lenovo X1-Carbon) have a tiny electronic reset button that's suppose to do the same thing. Problem is, it never works. So about once a year I have to remove all it's screws from back cover to un-plug/re-plug the main lipo-battery. Yeah, no fun there.

My HP EliteBook Folio is better in the regard since it's LiPo battery still pops-off (old school style).

(NOT MINE)

If you get a message saying "The device you have selected is included in the current theme but AlienFX cannot detect this device on your system.  Do you want to remove this device from the current theme?", It's probably a bad driver.

Go to Device Manager > Universal Serial Bus Controllers and look for a Driver with a warning sign next to it, Uninstall that driver and restart.

Hopefully your AlienFX should recognize your system now, it worked for me.

This method worked for my system, Alienware 15 R3. Thank you for saving me from the long process of uninstalling and re installing Alien FX. My laptop is brand new only one week old when this error started. Now I just need to get my Xbox One controller to work wireless instead of being plugged in with USB. The controller worked on Bluetooth for a few days but now I'm being asked for a pin for the controller. I think this is a Windows 10 issue.

Had same issue out of the blue on an Alienware 15 R3. USB device descriptor failed. Lights wouldn't work. Also camera could not be used to sign into Windows 10 account via face recognition. Restarted a few times and lights came back on but couldn't get Command Center to change anything because it thought the device wasn't present. Tried the power drain method by disconnecting the battery and all usb devices. Didn't work. Couldn't uninstall the newest .net framework to reinstall. Finally instead of doing a repair like I initially tried on the Alienware Command Center I did a complete uninstall and redownloaded from the link. After installing it again and restarting everything works and there is no failure of the device descriptor. Seems like it was just a software failure. Wouldn't be a big issue but with the lights out it is hard to see the keys plus, as stated before, at a $2,000 price tag and only 4 months old I'd expect everything to work.
