Alienware Graphics Amplifier Question

Hi all,

I'm about to receive my newly ordered Alienware 17 R3 and the amplifier. Actually, right now I haven't decided to purchase which kind of desktop GPU in my amplifier, but the amplifier has the usb slots, which can be my home station to connect external mouses, hard drives. I wonder if the usb slots of the amplifier will work without no GPU inserted. I am kind of new to alienware products and hope to get answered.

Thank you.

Hi,

Yes, they should work even if you do not have the video card installed in the amplifier. Test it out and let us know if you run into any problems.

There wouldn't be any harm (not sure why there would be, to be honest). The GA will be detected as a PCIe USB Hub without a GPU in it. You can use the laptop as is.

As for the GPU, it's safest to get a GPU from PNY as those should fit without problems.

Additionally, I'd like to go for GPU like 980m ti or titan x for my amplifier. Also I noticed there are different kinds of GPUs listed in websites. Could you recommend me one or more types of GPUs suitable for graphics amplifier? Thank you.

Thank you for letting me know it. As you said the idea can be implemented, could you please tell that will it cause any harm to my laptop or the amplifier if I only use connectivity function without inserting GPU? I just want to make sure it will not cause any harm to my devices. Thank you.
