Alienware M17X R3 black-screen problem caused by Graphic card(?)
My Alien have in the last weeks turn black-screen with good reason to believe it's the GPU.
Here's what I've done to try fixing it:
1: Cleaned CPU and reapply thermopaste due to overheating problems (while even using a cooling-pad). Fixed temperature, but not the black-screen.
2: Reset the pc back to fabric-setup, AND reinstalled Windows 7.
3: Discharging the battery.
4: Washing and cleaning inside the laptop for dust
5: Disconnect adapter and restart - works till it's no power left.
6: Uninstalling Graphic card. Works with adapter both connected and disconnected. But then, with a non-working graphic card, I can't do anything!
I haven't looked on the GPU itself since I lack knowledge and courage to check it for burnmarks or something. But if this can be fixed by other ways than buying a new graphic card, I would definetly prefer that, and any help would be MUCH appreciated and recieves with thanks.
Other information:
Pc bought 28.08.2011
Specs:
Intel® Core™ i7 Processor 2820QM (2.30Ghz, 8MB, 4C)
2GB GDDR5 NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 580M
16GB 1333MHz DDR3 Dual Channel (4X4GB)
750 GB (7200 rpm) SATA
Windows® 7 Home Premium, 64

I just did a Fresh install and I still get some Black Screen and Freezes... So I don't really understand how a software problem can cause that... (except drivers)
By the way I have a GTX 560M and have the same problem....
Anyhow, paying $2000 for a computer which crash every 4hours is awesome!
Considering the number of topics I see online about that, I think that maybe Dell should take its responsibilities! Cause it's not an isolated case!

It's possible. I had a warranty, so the Dell guy came with a new graphics card, replaced it. And now it's fine.

Yes, there are several easy fixes; Origin, MSI, and Falcon Northwest are three that come immediately to mind.

I would greatly appreciate it because I've had these problems for the last two months but I finally have it where it'll at least run for now. I can't play any games on my alienware and it can barely run any videos at 360p on anything.

I don't think there is an easy fix... it's wear and tear on the graphics card... most M17x R3 people had this problem after a year or so. I also had a problem after a year, after Dell replaced the GPU, it lasted for 2 more years, now I have a new computer.
so maybe this is only a problem for GPUs in M17x R3 made around 2010-2011 ?

My Week old 15 R2 died , Dell thinks its the motherboard ..... I have an Asus that worked great for 7.5 years and only reason I replaced it was my kids knocked it off table . Never had one problem . My first Dell/alienware cant even last a week and I was not even using it much .

Guys never buy alienware laptop's. I got it. It's was 7 times!!!!! in repair workshop. Now warranty is over and this "device just laying in cabinet with burned gpu. Now I got Asus ROG. already 5 month without any issues. Just for comparison alienware was burned after 3 weeks when I got it.
I hope that alienware will knocked out from market with their laptops forever.
