Alienware M17X R4 unable to detect sound

Hello!

I just received my Alienware M17X R4 and there is no sound. When I opened Device Manager, I didn't see any sound cards other than Intel's HD driver (I have sound blaster recon 3Di sound card). So I downloaded the latest drivers from Dell, uninstalled the existing drivers and tried to install the new ones.

It came back with the following error message "Setup is unable to detect a supported product in your system"

the weird thing is that the sound can start working again for some reason and then just go out again.

Any help is greatly appreciated...

Edit: I'm using Windows 7 64-bit, and right now I don't see ANY unidentified sound cards at all in device manager. I got the latest BIOS from Dell "Voyager MLK(M17R4) BIOS A11 for win7"

Hi Isik,

I apologize, probably the article is still on the older version, even if you have the latest BIOS, re flash it, download it from here:

I'm having the same problem, and flashed the BIOS as well, and it didn't fix the problem for me either.

Hi all,

If the BIOS update didn't fix the issue, hardware replacements are probably going to be required. Send me a private message with your service tag, contact information and the link to this thread and I'll be happy to help you.

Unplug the ac adapter and pop out the battery, then hold the power button for 30 seconds & pop the battery back in and plug in the ac adapter, your sound should now be working.

Dear Natalia,

I'm having the same problem... I already had troubles with the "no sound devices detected" issue (alienware m17x r4), but after reinstalling the BIOS a few times it went away. This time though it doesn't seem to be changing, and my pointing devicce stopped woring simultaneously.

What should I do? Is there a way to get a dell technician to look at my laptop?

Kind Regards
