My son's machine is only 4 and a half months old and the speakers have worked on and off for that length of time, so far the keyboard , the ram memory, the power cord have all been replaced and now in the past 3 weeks my motherboard has been replaced twice and the problem still exists.
The engineer can now locate my house without using the SATNAV.
I am seriously considering just packing the machine up and requesting my money back or a full replacement machine. Something that is designed to be a high spec, high functioning machine has left me feeling that i was robbed and should have stuck to one of the lower price machines available.
ok so i've been monitoring it for the past couple weeks and it still seems to do the same thing (even in safe mode when the drivers are off). here is a screenshot of the troubleshooting window. When the system does the sound check, the driver works fine, but no audio device is detected--not even headphones! I'm very sure this is some sort of hardware problem because before the sound device "disappears," it makes a prolonged static noise on its own. What would be your advice on this? As you know it is a pretty pricey computer and it would be really disappointing to have an essential feature that runs inconsistently. Thank you.
I had the exact same issue and after several phone calls to tech support and letting them try to remotely fix the issue I sent it back to them to be repaired and while I did not get any specifics as to what all was wrong what they did do is replace the Mother Board. I still had issues with viewing pictures in my picture viewer inside windows that would make my com surroget crash. Eventually that stopped occuring and every once in awhile when I either first boot up or bring my laptop out of sleep mode it will show the red/white X over my sound speaker icon only instead of saying that it wasn't even recognizing the soundcard it would say that the sound software wasn't running even though I can hear sounds...it doesn't do it every time but there are times when voices or sounds have like a tinny or metalic echo/vibration quality to it. so even though the replacement of the motherboard kind of resolved the issue to where it isn't as harsh there is still some kind of lingering problem that exists. Also, I do some online gaming and have been recently having an issue with a flickering screen that either goes black or even flickers to where i can see my desk top ...that only seems to occur within the game i play and at no other time ...so I'm still trying to get that figured out as I have updated all my drivers and done all the impotant windows updates which i personally feel like mess more things up then make them better.
I wish you luck in figuring out what you need to do as I still struggle with some issues I should not be experiencing with such a expensive and custom built for gaming as I have with this laptop. But, it sounds like you may need to have the motherboard replaced.

Hi majhodge,
Have you tested if the same issues happen with external speakers or headphones?
Please check if also occurs in safe mode.
