Alienware TactX Mouse Left Click Problem
Hello,
I've been enjoying my Alienware system since I've purchased it. Recently though my mouse has been giving me trouble where it double-clicks when it shouldn't, or it thinks I've released the mouse button when dragging items around when I haven't. I've seen posts elsewhere on the forums with folks having the same problem.
I called tech support today to try and have my mouse repaired. Apparently even though I opted for extra warranty service, accessories such as the mouse and keyboard aren't covered for more than 1 year. My first year of warrany was up in August apparently. The rep admitted that my mouse does need replacing but there isn't anything that can be done. I've tried the mouse in other computers and had the same problem. Other mice plugged into the Alienware system work fine. I've removed/reinstalled the drivers off the Resource disc as well as tried using the default Windows drivers.
This is pretty pathetic in my opinion. An Alienware TactX mouse sells for $79.99 plus tax off the website, and it only lasts for just over a year? I've had mice that I've paid $10 for last for 8 years. Another that cost $30 last for 8 years. I don't casually use my computer/mouse either, I use them every day doing a wide variety of tasks from web surfing to gaming sessions to drawing.
Anyone have any tips on how I can fix this mouse? I know it's just an accessory, but if this is a reflection of how Alienware support really is, I'm worried for when something major happens.
Thanks for any suggestions you can make.

Mine too started having this issue, anyone find a fix? It's annoying for gaming since when I try to fire an automatic weapon by holding down the left mouse button, I pretty much fire 3 bullets and then stop even though the left mouse button is still held down... I pretty much have to spam click the left mouse button for automatic fire which is annoying.

I'm having the same issue with my alienware tactx mouse as well, it just decides when it wants to click twice when I click once. Is there someone who has a solution?

Same problem here...rig looks incomplete now (using generic black mouse) Errrr...80 bucks for a mouse that lasts one year is really disappointing!!!

I have the exact same issue with the Tactx mouse as well. Is there a fix for this? This is not a cheap mouse and if this is the expected lifetime of it then I'll need to look into other options next time.

I got about 1.5 years out of mine..they wont do anything about it...you can blow compressed air in and it will fix for a bit, as will taking it apart and cleaning it, but either way its a short term fix.

Mine broke in 11 months, neither Dell nor the reseller takes ANY responsebility. Aparently the logitech G9X reported having the same systematic build flaws, do NOT buy the g9X instead of this one, it's the exact same mouse apart from the cosmetics. Alienware and Dell I guess are not to blame for the absolute shoddy build quality of these products, since they didn't produce them... but... At least stand by the product that you chose to pair up with your own systems. On the phone, Dell absolutely denies that this is a common occurence.... but I guess we all know better. I honestly don't know which way to go now, my friends are reporting that RaZer's might be even worse quality-wise, and they're burning through 1-2 each year... Maybe I should build one myself, apparently no-one else is capable of doing so.
I hope you find a solution somewhere mates :)
