Alienware X51 R2 - Will NOT boot USB flash (uefi / legacy) with secure boot off - Need Help ASAP (or it goes back)
Greets,
I have tried everything to make this work. It will work without a problem on my inspiron desktop however when attempting to load the usb key on the x51, I get endless problems.
I will press F12 to enter BIOS and select the usb in both EUFI/Legacy - this is what I get:
UEFI = After "Loading..." I get black screen forcing me to reboot manually
Legacy = It asks me to reboot in white black text
Of course, like with the inspiron, I deactivated secure boot. I have tried all of the USB slots on the x51, I have attempted other kernals on the USB ...nothing will work.
I tested another theory which was to disable the GPU of the X51 however this proved futile because the problems replicated themselves. The GPU is the only unique component between both desktops. CPU is i3 vs i5, 4g vs 8g, 1TB vs 2TB, so I not see these specification improvements being the culprit. The X51 does have a different BiOS interface unique to Alienware.
The X51 that I was so happy to obtain will now have to go back because it is not compatible with the work I do and I am sad to see it go unless someone can help me.
To be clear, the USB contains Ubuntu/work programs and I cannot do my 9-5 work without this key properly working when my employer wants me to work from home.

In order to install Ubuntu the system needs to be in legacy, then just restart the system and press 12 until you get into the boot menu so you can select USB; if you are still no able to try with a different USB if not try creating a disc.
If you need a guide check out this video.
