Alienware X51 Turns On and Off

Hi. My Alienware x51 R2 is having an issue booting up. A few days ago I was using the computer when out of the blue the screen went red and the audio started stuttering. This continued for a few seconds before it completely turned off. Now when the power button is pressed, the lights and fans turn on for a split second, the system beeps once, and then completely turns off, and then repeats this process until it is unplugged. I have tried unplugging all the peripherals, unplugging the power cable and plugging it into a different outlet, and opening the computer to check if any fans are blocked. I upgraded to Windows 10 on Monday and this began happening on Wednesday. Can anyone tell if this is a fixable problem or a faulty piece of hardware that needs to be replaced? Thanks in advance.

Hello,

Try doing a power drain first. To perform a power drain, follow the steps below.

  • Turn the system off and disconnect the power cord.
  • Disconnect all external devices (mouse, keyboard, etc)
  • Press and hold the power button for 1 minute.
  • Connect everything again and turn on the system.

If it continues to do the same thing, try clearing the CMOS jumper. Click here to view a post from Chris that explains how to do this.

Thanks. Reconnecting the CMOS did the trick!
