Alienware X51 bluescreen crash using Aegis Padlock USB 3.0 disk
We just bought a top Alienware X51 model and an Apricorn Aegis Padlock 256 AES 1 TB encrypted drive.
Every time when I connect the Padlock to the USB 3.0 port of the X51 and unlock it with the keypad, the X51 crashed with bluescreen.
The disk works fine with USB 2.0.
Any suggestions? It's very dissapointing that a brand new top performance workstation can go to bluescreen so easily by connecting an external drive. Shame on you, Dell.

Thank you, I haven't realized there is a forum only for Alienware.

I've tried to test it several ways.
I connected the Padlock drive to a Dell Inspiron notebook on USB 2 and USB 3. It didn't crash the system but the drive didn't come up.
I returned to the Alienware X51 and checked the drivers of the USB, they were up to date. I rolled back the USB 3.0 Root Hub driver. The Usb 3.0 Host controller driver was not available for rollback.
It prevented the bluescreen crash next time when I connected the Padlock disk, however, the drive just remained invisible.
The system recognized it as a disk, but could not mount it or assign a label.
After that I updated again to the most recent driver and now it worst than it was first time.
Using USB 3 will crash with bluescreen, using USB 2 will not mount the drive.
Great :(((

muzx,
Our apologies that a user has not posted on this thread. Have you tested the device on both rear USB 3.0 ports? Contact aegis support (800-458-5448) and ask if they have seen this BSOD.

Chris,
I have tried both USB 3.0 ports, same result.
It's not the problem of Aegis, it's definitely should be Dell issue, because the same happened when I tried to use a WD Passport USB 3.0 disk.

Thank You, Chris.
Well, that post has been published in 2011-11-03 and I bought the computer the more than one and a half year later.
I can't believe that after the known issue it's released with a long outdated driver.
Moreover, of course I have already tried to update the drivers of the USB and when I used the recent release, the USB didn't work AT ALL, even USB 2.0 didn't recognized the disks.
So I needed to rollback to a previous version to make it work at least with the USB 2.0.

Call support there is an updated USB 3.0 driver they can point you to that will resolve usb 3.0 BSOD issues.
