So I heard the alien ware alpha down clocks all CPUs if they use to much power to make it compatible with its power requirements does this mean theoretically a 4790k could work in the alienware alpha?
All Haswell desktop processors work, and yes, certain processors will downclock to meet the power requirement.
For a bit less of the price and slighty less turbo speeds, then i7-4790S would be a good CPU to upgrade to. Lesser downlock compared to the 4790K.
