Alienware system reset
Hi
I need to give my new alienware a fresh start - a driver from an astroimaging camera just doesnt work on the machine and i have tried just about everything i can think of to get it to work. My last option is to just start the PC from fresh and reinstall everything. So I want to reset my alienware machine to factory settings but I want to be very sure it does do exactly that - are all of the drivers and other changes that are made to the registry refreshed/gone. The system restore points i tried and the refresh your pc settings didn't seem to resolve my problem at all
Also will i have to reinstall bios a04 as it shipped to me with ao1 (strangely the Inspiron I bought at the same time shipped with the latest bios)
Also will i be able to name the PC differently as well - currently it shows karen_000 and I'd like to get rid of the 000
cheers
Karen

Hi Karen,
I will be glad to help you. Updating BIOS is not mandatory for factory reset.
You can change the PC name during factory reset. Refer the below link to do a factory reset:
http://dell.to/16236dj
The registry files and drivers will be changed to as it was in factory state.
You may then use the below link to update drivers (if required):
http://dell.to/1660hkx
Note: Please backup the data before attempting this.
If you have any other questions do reply to the same thread.

Hi Kiran
thanks for the quick reply
can you also tell me
the refresh left a lot of windows.old files
will the restore remove them as well or will it create a whole new set of windows.old directories and files
Also i have removed my data from the laptop do i really need to backup/ copy anything else??
thanks

Hi Karen,
The factory reset takes the computer to back to a stage when you first got the computer. All the files will be deleted during this process (including windows.old directories and files) if they are not backed up.

Hi Karen,
Due to some technical issue there is a possibility that the link might not have worked. I tried opening it and it worked so please try again.
