Alienware turning on by itself.

I purchased an Alienware Area 51 r2 recently. Its been working like a charm until recently. I've had it for about 4 months and lately it's been turning on by itself. I push the power button to turn it off, and it comes back on. Sometimes it's instantly, sometimes it's a few hours later. There's no pattern really. Is there a way to check this and see why it's turning on on it's own?

Hi,

Do you have it connected directly to the wall outlet? How do you normally turn it off, do you use the shut down option in Windows?

I have it plugged into a power strip. Since I've had it I've used the power button to turn it off and on. This problem recently started. Otherwise it stayed off till I turned it on. It also does it when I try the shutdown option.

Hi,

Try connecting it directly into the wall outlet to confirm if the same thing happens. Also, flash the system Bios to the latest version, click here for the download link.

Hi Everyone,

I have exactly the same problem. I bought my Alienware less a month ago and from the beginning it turns on by itself randomly.

It is connected to a power strip but I would be amazed if it were related to. To the same power strip it is also connected another computer that works perfectly and it is turned on only when I want. In any case trying to connect the Dell directly to the wall plug would be difficult in my case since I have to share the wall plug with some other components (a couple of monitors, home cinema system, the other computer...), this is why I use a power strip  :-)

I could try to upgrade the BIOS but having bought the computer so recently it should already have the latest BIOS version.

I was thinking about some Wake On LAN feature, but I have not checked it yet.

Any comment/suggestion will be welcomed.

Best regards
