Alienware x51 beeping

I'm not exactly certain when I purchased my desktop and am looking for all the information on it as this is posted. About 2 months ago my desktop would beep an unlimited number of times upon booting up whether restart or shut down. I unplugged the power source and waited until the morning and plugged it in and it worked fine and just kept it on until updates and such. I recently went out of town for 8 days and had my computer turned off. When I got back home and turned it on it started updating windows and at about 60% of the updates it went to a black screen and began beeping nonstop and so I unplugged everything attached to it and let it set overnight like I normally do, but this time it didn't boot up it just keeps beeping.

Hello,

Try doing a power drain first. To perform a power drain, follow the steps below.

  • Turn the system off and disconnect the power cord.
  • Disconnect all external devices (mouse, keyboard, etc)
  • Press and hold the power button for 1 minute.
  • Connect everything again and turn on the system.

If it continues to do the same thing, try clearing the CMOS jumper. Click here to view a post from Chris that explains how to do this.

Reseting the CMOS worked but in removing the case and specifically the video card case the video on YouTube for alienware services said that one or two cords should be connected depending on the card but I have two cables with neither connected or even ports to connect. I bought the $900 version is that just for upgrades? I don't understand why my graphics card looked 100% different that in that video.

Hi,

I’m glad that worked. I believe some cards connect directly to the board without the use of cables, just make sure your video card is showing up in Device Manager under Display Adapters.
