Any reason to use the graphics accelerator without a graphics card installed?

I recently purchased an Alienware 17 that included a free graphics accelerator. Since I spent my budget on the laptop and won't be investing an a graphics card for a while, I was wondering if there were any advantages or disadvantages to attaching the graphics accelerator box to the laptop with no card installed. I'm assuming the additional USB ports would be live, and the external monitor port. Any other advantages? I had read in one review that this would somehow allow overclocking of the laptop's graphics processor, but the statement was very unclear. So, good, bad, or not good enough to bother with?

Hi,

Besides the USB ports and the external monitor port, there aren’t any other advantages. I have never heard of using the amplifier for overclocking the processor, I don’t believe that is possible.

My GA doesn't have a graphics port (only the 4 USB ports and the PCIE cable port).

My understanding is that the GA won't actually power up until a card is installed, so the USB ports aren't going to be available; in any case, it is a pretty clunky and power inefficient way to provide 4 USB ports.

Not worth the trouble. Waiting for decent cards to drop further in price...

Your point about power use really makes the case for not even hooking it up. Thanks!
