Area 51, EVGA GTX 980 Kingpin, power cable message
Hello All,
I just received my Area 51 desktop today and overall, I am pleased with it. The one snag that I have ran into was replacing the video card that came with it, with my already purchased 980 GTX Kingpin.
I slid the card into the main PCIe slot (closest to the processor) and plugged in the provided 6 and 8 pin. I powered on the computer and got a black screen with the message: " Please power down and connect the PCIe power cables for this graphics card."
The wires were connect securly. I then replaced the 980 with the video card that came with it and no problems. I inserted a GTX 760 and no problems. I have even gone SLi with the GTX 760 and that works.
My question is why won't the GTX 980 work? Has anyone ran into this before?
My power supply is an 850W.
Thank you,
Smerka

Hi,
I believe the GTX 980 Kingpin requires dual 8-pin and one 6-pin power connectors, are you sure you are connecting all of the power cables? If you do not see the required power cables, some may be tucked at the bottom of the case with a wire tie.

ran into this issue with the 980ti. Unplugged computer, removed battery, then plugged in everything and it worked.

The owner I bought my case from had removed his mthrbrd & installed it into a different case; he says he's running Kingpin SLI & photos show a triple connector scheme:
yours may be similar

No idea? I just got mine, the other day, and it came with two GTX 980s in SLI. Maybe someone with more experience in 980 variants can chime it?
