Area 51 R2 Triple SLI GTX 980 Surround connection problem

Question

I have 3 (old) Viewsonic lcd monitors (19' 1280 * 1024) each connected via VGA->DVI adapters - one monitor per card - and basic windows is running fine across all 3 screens.However, when attempting to setup Nvidia Surround, I get a 'display connection error' message and cannot proceed.  This happens even if trying to setup up only the two monitors that are identical.VA902b (2)VA903 (1)The message points me to the connection guide on Nvidia's site -  www.geforce.com/.../system-requirements which states 'Center (primary) Display of the Surround group should be connected to the left most card.'  Using their pictures for reference (views of the rear from outside the case), that seems to equate to the bottom card or the Area 51 R2.  This is where my primary (centre) display is plugged in. As mentioned before, the monitors are all VGA and are plugged in using VGA to DVI adapters. If anyone could provide advice I would be most grateful. Oh, and Merry Christmas!

Thanks for the response. However, I cannot get past the connection error message no matter how I try to configure the connections. I bought 3 DisplayPort to VGA adapters and have tried a few of their recommended configurations - the three screens STILL work properly in windows, but the same connection error message appears when trying to implement the SURROUND setup.

So I supposed my revised question is, can the surround feature be used with three analog (i.e. having only VGA input) monitors?

I believe you can do VGA but I don't think you can use VGA cables. Have you tried using only DVI cables with VGA adapters?
