Aurora R1 (2009 model) upgrades
The R1 seems to be upgrading well.
Has anyone installed a good internal 3D bluray player in their machine?
I have been looking for a 3D bluray player in order to play movies on my computer. The R1 has three bays and two are taken with a CD player and a Bluray r/w burner. I would like to install the new 3D bluray player in the third slot.
Dell doesn't list any 3D players for the R1 and customer service can't guarantee a R2-R4 player will fit or work.
Thanks
I recently moved away from AMD and installed a 980 ti (4996) to replace my two 6950 cards. Needless to say the technology has improved significantly. At idle the old setup ran at 207 watts. The new setup with the 980 at idle runs at 138 watts total. There is a lot less heat being generated and the CPU now runs about two C less as well.
I also took the opportunity to reverse my H-80 cooler fans so they push cool air into the case which then draws heated air from the 980 up and out the top of the case. I left one rear expansion slot cover off so the 980 fans can draw air into the case as well.
The Nvidia software Surround isn't as well constructed as the AMD Eyefinity software (UI) but gets the job down and because of the simplicity of the Suround software it seemed much easier to get things up and running.
Another major reason I left AMD was the driver issues. The last update excluded the 6950 series and the last usable AMD driver update for my card rendered my Cyberlink player functions (true theater) unusable and it appears AMD will not be fixing the problem. The Nvidia drivers have since restored the Cyberlink true theater functions and movies look great.
Any suggestions for a decent 3D bluray player would be appreciated.

Good to hear your Aurora-R1 upgrades are going well. I'm still using mine heavy as well.
I have a LG BH10LS30 Blu-Ray Burner in mine, but my PowerDVD (BluRay capable) is a few versions behind and I've never tried a 3D-BluRay in it. Most of my serious 1080p/HD-Audio BluRay watching is done in the HomeTheater anyway. I like my LG BD though, so maybe look at their current line-up. I thought the software was the key to 3D-BD, so if you get no answers here, maybe try CyberLink's forums or "supported drives" list.
Thanks for the heads-up about AMD dropping support for Radeon HD5xxx-6xxx cards from Crimson v15.x driver. Here to, I'm a few versions behind (I'm still on CCC v13.x) but all my games still play. Was thinking of taking my Aurora-R1 up to Windows10-64, so not sure how this AMD issue is going to play-out. I thought my only concern was getting AW-CommandCenter/MIO-Board to play nice with 10.
Edit:
I know you have moved to NVidia, but here's an AMD link, hmm.

AMD discontinuing driver support was disappointing but as it turned out it motivated me to make some worthwhile upgrades, with Nvidia. I at least have my true theater back.
I think you are right about 3D being a software solution but I recall trying to play a 3D disc once and a pop-up said my bluray player wasn't worthy. It may have been a result of an incompatable monitor. I have a couple of Asus Rog pq278q black 27 inch monitors on the way, Once I get them set up I'll see If I can play 3D movies, using the glasses from the local theater. According to the link below I may still have to buy the 3D glasses from Nvidia.
