Aurora R4 GPU upgrade GTX960 issue

Hi, I have an R4 circa 2013 with a GeForce GTX560 Ti and purchased a EVGA GeForce GTX 960 4GB SSC GAMING ACX 2.0+, Whisper Silent Cooling w/ Free Installed Backplate Graphics Card 04G-P4-3967-KR .  used 6 pin to 8 pin adapter....all fits well.  At bootup, I get 2 beeps and screen goes black. According to Card FAQ I might have either a motherboard issue or card issue or BIOS issue.  the 560 works fine.

What did I miss?  Is there a fix out there for this?  Will the 960 work with R4?  I am a newb at this, looking to extend the life of a very good machine.  tks in advance for any help out there.

Thanks for the note.  I'm looking at the card and there are no 6 pin connectors....just an 8 pin.

You do not need (possibly incorrect) 6-8 pin adapter ... remove it and connect video-card power with native connectors.

The Aurora video card power supply leads are as follows -

Rail 1 = P14 6 pin/P15 8 pin

Rail 2 = P16 6 pin/P17 8 pin

Right. So if IIRC ...
P14 is a 6-pin and P15 is a 2-pin that kinda snaps or fits to the side of it. It should make a usable 8-pin.

that was a great idea...I didn't notice the small 2 prong on P15.  I tried it 3 times, P14 in to 8 pin and the last 2 pin from P15 into the 2 remaining holes.  Same result.....no bootup, just beeps.

Hmm,

Well if the 560 still works.

and

The 960 was new/sealed, then ...

You might have to test 960 in a different machine.

Aurora-R4 is UEFI, so it should not have a problem running that card (even if it lacks an onboard Legacy/UEFI switch).

I dont have another machine to check it out on.... I must have a bad card.  I took care to make sure I had good connection with both the motherboard and plugs.  I will try and return this card.  so there is no reason this card shouldn't work.....

I really appreciate your help on this question.  I thought it would be an easy upgrade.  Do you have any suggestions on a card that might have a better chance of working???

No, not really.

Have you tried the other PCie slot?

What is your BIOS version?

If it's pretty old, it likely needs to be updated.

Remember that every time you flash the BIOS firmware, it carries significant risk of bricking. There are a couple of posts here that document a working stepped approach (or, you can instead try doing each one in order).

yup, I tried both slots....same result. I will look into the BIOS version...that is probably it as I have never updated it and it is almost 4 years old.  I might just upgrade to a new machine.  Thanks again for all your help!
