Aurora-R5, Liquid Cooling question
Chris
Sorry if this has been asked elsewhere, with the new Aurora R5 - is liquid cooling only available on the K series processors (such as the 6700k).
I see liquid cooling is bundled with your power supply options which is a bit confusing.
Are the non-over clocked processors using air cooling?
Thanks

The 850w + Liquid Cooling requires you to choose the K series. Either the Intel i5-6600K or the Intel i7-6700K. The other CPUs may overclock but are using air cooling.

Any idea if the Aurora R5 air cooled machines can be upgraded by the end user to liquid cooling?
If you look at the X51 R3, if you didnt get the K processor, you couldnt upgrade to liquid because of a chassis difference. Granted that is a unique cooling system being used, there is a difference in the case.
If the same holds true for the R5, I will probably cancel my order. Part of the appeal is buying in at the low price point and doing your own upgrades later.
Any info you could provide will be appreciated.

@Hockey > I take it you're in Detroit ... you may or may not get a definitive answer from Dell, it is for them to say. In the meantime, I hope you'll appreciate the pre-shipping info as an 'upgrade what-if' that I provided to the buying public related to non-K liquid-cooling, here in the boundaried K-Hole section:
R5 Aurora Community Discussion + Buyer | Upgrade Guide
I'll automatically assume you've seen it, but decided to place the link here for others who haven't. Verification has to come through Dell or those owners that take delivery & do the upgrade -or- appraise us with a feasibility study somewhere online, hopefully here close to home. Can the 7 pin Aururoa R4 Part # R5TNT Alienware liquid cooler be used with the R5? My outlet system said 850 power supply with liquid cooling but has a stock heatsink. I've added my 6700k from an XPS 8900 but the liquid cooler I purchased doesn't have the right connectors. I purchase it thinking it was for the R5 and not previous Auroras. Not sure if an adapter for the 7-pin will work or if its even needed. If I can just place on 4 pin pump pins and 3 pins cpu fan pins.

if it fits it will work
7pin assignment is below, pins 1-2-3 are identical for all liqwid coolers that use a 3pin fan connector, whereby Grd / Volts / Tach can work off of any fan header, call it universal or a standard
A 5 or 7pin adapter would look like this
with out such an adapter, you can plug the 7pin onto a 3pin fan header, if it will fit
I made the above photo last year for someone, Area-51 owner, I just pulled it off a thumbdrive in a folder related to cooling; note red #2 right hand photo, where an A-51 5pin is simply plugged into a 3pin fan header, it isn't a secure attachment but it is attached, care is needed not to dislodge it, however the space is too narrow for a 7pin on the mthrbrd, therefore, you might try this on the R5 board if the black 7pin fits the space / can plug into the fan header; if you have a 4pin pwm header, well, make sure pins 1-2-3 are touching Grd/Volt/Tach and stay away from the pwm signal / pin
if the stock r5 cooler is a 4wire pwn-type, the R4 cooler will work, but I wouldn't know if the mthrbrd will object to a 3-wire cooler plugged into a 4-wire pwm header
the advice here is a free fix, try it out
permanent solutions might be a Molex-to-Fan adapter, search eBAY for open-pin adapter, 12v/Grd is all you need to run the pump: 3pin Male ATX~4pin Molex M~F Power Supply Fan/Cooler Cable/Cord/Wire Adapter
