Aurora R5 Questions re Lock Screen and Resource DVD

I just bought an Aurora R5 machine that after opening the box from Best Buy I had a number of spontaneous reboot issues until I got the bios updated, and Win10 upgraded to Win10Pro.  At this stage the machine is working pretty much as my previous custom machine, and  I have two fairly basic questions:

1:  After I use the  Win+L to sign off &lock the screen, the screen saver will not come on -- is there a somewhere special in Win10 or Alienware controls to have the screen saver activated when the screen is locked?

2: Also, can anyone tell me the value added of the Alienware "Resource DVD" -- I do see one of the files being called "bootup.exe" or some such so wondering if this is supposed to be an easy boot disk if needed, or just copies of files to create a separate boot dvd?

All thoughts will be appreciated .... TGH

Hi terrygh‌,

For question #1 you can try this and for question #2  the Resource DVD (some of them) will have the Windows RE (recovery environment), but this disk is mostly used for the system drivers and also contains some apps like the AW Command Center.

1. Works for me. Does the Screen-Saver even come-on while you are logged-into Windows normally?

And just an aside, but your monitors will last longer if you instead set them to sleep after 10-15 minutes.

2. Kinda surprised you got one at all these-days. Usually, it just contains (likely older versions of) files you can get from support.dell.com for your model. If you want a bootable USB Recovery Drive, use the Dell provided icon in Start Menu or search for USB Recovery and make one (with System Files included).

Thanks for the reply Tesla -- when you say "works for me"  do you mean your screen saver on Win10 activates when the lock screen comes on?  Any special settings that you use not shown in the main screen saver window?

And yeah re the resource disk  -- not expecting much value there that I cannot find online.  Appreciate the tip re the Dell icon for the recovery disk setup  -- will look into this when things quiet down.

Yes. Nothing special.

Power: Set monitors to Never turn off

Theme: Set to Mystic and 1 minute

Then, I press Win+L to go to Lock-Screen. After 1 minute the Screen-Saver starts on both monitors.

A nice surprise that it works on my machine as well , Tesla – I am thinking now that I probably had not tested that feature after I updated the bios since I was so pleased that the unscheduled reboots were no longer happening. Will probably have more inane questions in the not too distant future …. TGH
