Aurora R7 - 2933Mhz HyperX memory option?
Hi,
I recently picked up an Alienware Aurora R7. It came with the 16GB of DDR4 2666Mhz memory.
I'm thinking of upgrading to 32GB of the Kingston HyperX 2933Mhz memory. It's an option on the Alienware configurator (as "32GB Dual Channel HyperX DD4 XMP at 2933Mhz") but it's not showing up as an available part on Dell's or Kingston's website.
I also checked with my Dell inside sales rep and they could not find the part number either...
Did anyone order the R7 with this memory type? If so, could you share the part number from the packing list?
Thanks!
P.S. It looks like Dell/Alienware motherboards lock the DDR4 memory at 1.2V. I have some great Corsair memory from other PC's which run at 3000Mhz plus at 1.35V - and the R7 simply does NOT like them.

Asetek cooler for Aware is 120x30mm > larger radiators = 38mm 49mm > smaller = 25/27mm
"binned and de-lidded", listen to you, you've heard of SL chips huh? SiliconLottery.com
RockitCool delidder's cheap, from there?, we might call it a Bintel ...
TFGHM / HR6V4 ThreadRipper cooler's 48mm wide, would need a 25mm wide fan for R5-R7

About to finalize a R7 8700K purchase. Should I have concerns around the memory OC discussed here? Did Dell support resolved the issue with third party RAM?
Anyone can comment whether there is a noticeable difference between the 2666 and 2933 RAM? If so I may need to include these into the order as from what I read here its next to impossible to get them after the system is shipped.
Right now on a 16GB configuration its either 2666 (2x8GB) or 2933 (1x16GB) and I am thinking whether to risk 16GB with 2666 dual channel than to over future-proof to 32GB.

I'll handle the obvious question of cost. Were it me, I take delivery of & pay for the base 8Gb stick (1x8Gb or 2x4Gb either or), that initial 8Gb stick is assumed to account for $75 of the base $799 Tier 1 price. From there, I add $75 to every memory option available in Tier 1, example:
*$70 + add $50 = $120 for 1x8Gb, add $200 = $270 for 1x16Gb (single channel)
*I price out 2x4Gb 2x8Gb 4x8Gb 2x16Gb G.Skill 3000 or 3200 & compare against Dell prices
*I decide to pay extra for theirs or upgrade myself under a separate G.Skill / Newegg type warranty
*original 8Gb stick can be held back as testing spare, passed on to next owner or sold to help pay for new kit

Unless there has been a change, 16GB is the minimum on an R7 8700K, and available only as a single stick.

AliensUSA.com, the Tier1 $800 desktop gets 8Gb 2666 'Included in Price', estimate it accounts for $70 of that $800 > add $70 to each option to get true price > example, 32Gb 2666 = $370 >< 32Gb 2933 = $570 etc
are you gonna put a picture up for us, & did you run Cinebench 15 cpu test yet?

Cinebenchr15: O/C profile i7-8700K 5.0 MHz XMP1 mem speed 2918
CPU 1656 peak CPU temp 90C Single-thread CPU 219 68C MP 7.56 OpenGL 163.87 fps peak GPU temp 44C
After that, I was trying to work with MSI Afterburner and briefly got improvement to 182 fps. The next day, Cinebench wouldn't open, with a message "resource string missing". Re-downloading wouldn't fix this. After updating Win10, I noticed error messages about "thermal control not working" and elevated idle temps. I fixed this by removing Afterburner and Cinebench for the moment and going back to defaults, then re-setting my O/C profile. I think Afterburner use along with AW thermal messed up both Cinebench and AW thermal. ?

Good point. Looks like the dual channel 16GB 2666 (2x8) memory option. The 2993 XMP single channel 16GB is not only more expensive and will push towards another 16GB for dual channel. And from what I had read the faster memory is not going to make a noticeable difference to performance (unless someone can point out otherwise and that would be awesome).

Will know more about how the R7 OC behaves once I get the system. Probably will behave differently from my current old R3.

There is now a 16GB 2933 MHz HyperX stick on ebay. Also somebody's R7.

Would you be interested in selling your extra 16GB 2933 MHz HyperX?

Sorry; I put it on ebay a few weeks ago, and it sold in about five hours.
