Chris are you able to answer why there is a limit on overclocking? People seem to be able to get no further than a stable 3.2 on the Aurora.

Any chance the ATI Overdrive in the Catalyst control center will ever be unlocked?

Kyronami,
I know you could push past 3.5 stable.
* On ours or the retail processors?
All the new Aurora bios did was to fix the lock-ups when using BCLK overclocking on the non-Extreme processors. I doubt we would allow the low end i7 920 to go beyond 3.20GHz because it would cut into our sales of the high end i7 975.
Aurora/Aurora ALX/Area 51
"Extreme Overclocking Crank the processor speed to unseen levels up to an incredible 3.6GHz depending on the processor while still maintaining the stability and immersive experience you expect from Alienware."
i7 920 base 2.66GHz, overclocked by Dell to 3.20GHz
i7 960 base 3.20GHz
i7 975 Extreme base 3.33GHz, overclocked by Dell to 3.60GHz
Area 51 ALX
"Extreme Overclocking Crank the processor speed to unseen levels up to an incredible 3.6GHz while still maintaining the stability and immersive experience you expect from Alienware."
i7 960 3.20GHz
i7 975 3.33GHz, overclocked by Dell to 3.73GHz or 3.86GHz

So what does this mean Chris M? Does this mean that Dell has actually deliberately crippled the OC options on its Alienware machines to prevent cutting into sales of higher CPUs? despite stating that "all Alienware comes with unlocked BIOSes for full overclocking".
In order words, your BIOS is still locked and depending on what Dell wants you may or may not be able to OC your CPU ...
- What does this mean - is there a difference between say a Dell supplied i7 CPUs and a retail I7 CPU that would prevent OC in some way?
At the end of the day I was able to clock up to 3.33Ghz (i7 975 Extreme speeds) so what has the new A03 revision BIOS actually done to enable OC on i7 920s?

I am a new and i buy a new aurora ALX i920 (2.66).
For overclocking at 3.2 is the procédure only a download a AURORA A04 exe. and not setting other paramètres?
thank

That is if you are afraid to overclock it yourself they will do it for you.

I have a question on this also. I notice there is now an option to pay Alienware/Dell a $200 increase to have the processor overclocked to 3.2 Ghz. Can't I just do this anyway by setting a parameter in the new version of the BIOS? What am I getting for $200?
