Blacks pixelation
Hey everyone!
So i'm a bit stuck, I've just received my new Alienware 17R4 which I absolutely love to peices. The only issue is i'm noticing pixelation on a lot of the black colors, which on my previous Dell XPS 17 laptop I didn't notice much if at all? So my question is, is this a video source problem or a monitor problem? The video source was YouTube which i know is not great for compression, But still i didn't notice this an issue on my previous 6 year old laptop. I've contacted Dell tech support and explained the issue but they didn't know what to do and want me to send my laptop back to them for inspection or fixing..? Which i really don't want to do as sending the laptop off i'm very weary of it being damaged ect and given the fact it was delivered 5km away from the correct address provided but that's a whole different story.. lol
Anyway I'm just wondering what to do as if it is just a video source problem and the screen is working fine, or does it seems like a hardware failure in which case i would need to go ahead and post the laptop back to Dell for repairs..
Thanks Alex
I've attached screen shots of what i'm describing, Photos were taken on my iphone of my screen on particually bad parts of the video where the pixelation is evident

Access SupportAssist on your computer and check for any driver updates.
Then select Checkup and select the various appropriate Troubleshooting programs as well as any Advance programs.
In one of the Troubleshooting programs you can access Color Management. Work through the various settings. In the end access Intel's Graphic Settings to fine tune picture.
Here is a nice site to check on the screen pixel condition.

Hi,
Unfortunately, this appears to be a hardware problem with the screen. We can help you set up the repairs from our end. For assistance, send me your Service Tag in a PM.

I don't know if you have a problem or not, however ...
I surely would not judge the proper operation of a LCD panel (and/or video card) by what I see:
- in just one application
- by just evaluating video
- by using highly-compressed YouTube videos in general
So many other ways to test a computer's display sub-system.

Hey Tesla, Thank you for your reply, on this occasion I've decided to contact Tech support as I'm not very tech savvy and they are now working on it for me.
Thank you
