Both Nvidia GPUs are 'hidden' in device manager... ?
my alienware 18 has somehow not recognized the two different NVidia 880m gpus installed, the NVidia control panel wont even open, and after installing new NVidia drivers, it still says it cannot proceed. Im using the generic intel graphics card. I don't know when this happened, but I installed gta 5 and it ran pretty slow so I was curious why. I ended up not even being able find any recognition of my NVidia 880m. I tried a number of different fixes, nothing very in depth, but the only progress I was able to make was to be able to change the "view" tab in the device manager to "show hidden devices" and then I FINALLY was able to see the two gpus.
Any idea if anyone has had this problem already? know a fix? I doubt it was that they overheated, I haven't really been running graphics intensive games. I also doubted that they would both fail at the same time, so I figured it has to be a configuration that's messed up, or POSSIBLY a virus that is preventing the computer from using them ?! ? maybe?

This computer has a setting known as the switchable graphics setting. It switches from the Intel integrated card to the Nvidia cards. The system may be set up to run only with the Intel card and you would need to switch it to run with the Nvidia cards.
To do this you can press the FN + F5 keys on the keyboard and a message should come up asking if you want to switch graphic cards with a yes or no option, click yes and restart the system. Once it boots back in to Windows it should be showing the 2 Nvidia cards again in device manager.
That would also explain the low performance on the GTA 5 game. If the game is running with the Intel card, the performance is going to be low. We also have an article that explains how you should set the games in the Nvidia control panel, this can be set up so that the games always run with the Nvidia cards on high performance. To view the article link please click here . Make sure to choose the “High-performance NVIDIA processor” option in the drop down menu when you are setting this for each of the games.
Please let us know if this solves the problem.
