Brand new (reseller) Alienware M17x-R4 beeps, memory error

Hi, I recently recieved my brand new alienware m17x and am recieving the 4 beeps memory error at startup/crash during use followed by the 4 beeps at reboot. It occurred the first time a few days after receiving the laptop, giving me time to install some games and play around with it, and is inconsistent (occasionally either starting up (in which I can play or have it crash randomly) OR giving the 4 beeps and blank screen). I have followed all the instructions given in other posts and tested each RAM module/reseated them which was tedious but they all allowed a start up. Could this still be a faulty ram module and the time I tested it it worked out of inconsistency? Also, the laptop was from a trusted alienware reseller and comes with a full dell warranty, but seems a tad suspicious as there were several different brands of ram when I opened it up: 2x 2gb Samsung, 1x 4gb Kingston, 1x8gb corsair(value select) =16gb total. Is this normal? I will probably call dell tomorrow in regards to my warranty, this laptop costed a fortune and all I want it to do is work. Any advice/help is appreciated,

Dimi

Chris M,

Thank you for your reply.

So you would agree my "brand new factory setup" Alienware has been tampered with? And is NOT a "brand new factory setup" Alienware?

If so, I shall contact the shop as soon as possible. This is my first Alienware and was not aware of these risks being able to occur having been given a 12 month dell warranty.

dimi275,

Since it came from a "reseller", there is no way we can know what original Dell parts they removed. That is always the risk of not buying directly from us.

The M17x-R4 shipped from us with the following memory =
0X23C 2GB Micron, 1600Mhz, 256X64, 8K, 204 pin
FYHV1 4GB Nanya, 1600MHZ, 512X64, 8K, 204 pin
8H68R 8GB Hynix, 1600Mhz, 1024X64, 8K, 204 pin

You should return it to the reseller and purchase directly from us.

The memory sticks you listed are certainly not on the Dell parts list for the M17x-R4. Send me the service tag number via a private message  (click my username and then click Start Conversation) so I can look it up.

Thank you for your help Chris, and sorry for the other post, that was my attempt before this one.

This issue is beginning to worry me. Seems like I may be a scam victim..

Where is the service tag number located?

Thanks,

Dimi

The Service Tag for your computer is located on a label on the back of the chassis. Or in the Bios Main screen. Restart, tap F2 to enter the Bios. Write down the service tag number. Do not make ANY changes in the Bios. Press F10 to Save and Exit.

The reseller bought 20 of these M17x-R4s. The M17x-Rs4 purchased warranty was for one year starting on the invoice date of 12/19/2012 and ending on 12/19/2013. The warranty start date is from when we sold it to the reseller, not from when they sold it to you. So they sold it to you with only 7 months of Dell warranty.

We shipped them with only 6GB of ram:
one 4GB FYHV1
one 2GB 0X23C

So they removed our Dell memory and added all of that non-Dell memory.
