Hi,

We do not support Windows 10 with this system. For Windows 7, we recommend you use this link to download the Alienware Command Center application.

Thanks for the reply, Rodrigo.

I've switched back to windows 7 and still can't get it to work.  These are the two errors I get...

When Command Center is opened...

And AlienFX just throws me this error after a few minutes of the PC being on...

Any insight on this?

Hi,

Are you running the latest Bios version for your system? You can check that on the Dell support site. If you are, it could be an issue with the motherboard. Unfortunately, we no longer have replacement parts available for this model.

Hi,

Make sure your system is running the latest Bios version and follow the steps below to make sure its not a software problem.

  1. Uninstall the Command Center software from the Programs and Features list.
  2. Turn the system off and disconnect the AC adapter.
  3. Disconnect the battery.
  4. Disconnect all external devices (USB devices, headsets, external monitors, etc.)
  5. Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds.
  6. Connect everything again and turn on the system.
  7. Install the Command Center software again.

Well,

Considering Alienware is SUCH a high cost product, you would think that Dell would support it's hardware and programs for more than a mere five years (Including the next OS upgrade within that time frame). I bought my M15X system in 02/11 with Windows 7. One OS update  (to Win 10) and now I can't operate my laptops lights?... Pathetic. Given the initial costs of the "Alienware' systems, support for them should last three times as long as cheaper systems, and impressive software tweaks to keep them functioning for as long as possible should be a given. Dell really knows how to 'Alienate' Alienware enthusiasts, not a great way to encourage repeat sales.

So, my question to Rodrigo; Now that you've already mentioned how Dell currently 'doesn't support Windows 10 with this system', would you be so kind as to let us know if there are any plans for them to do so in the future? I'd really appreciate knowing this, and would hope you'll forward this OBVIOUS desire of mine (and likely thousands of other Alienware fans) upstream if there isn't.

It should go without saying that if people who buy high end gear from Dell, can't expect support for it for a reasonable period of time afterward, then they'll likely buy somewhere else that does the next time.

Staying with Windows 7 wasn't an option, as it doesn't support Ram above 8GB, something High End tech providers should understand.

* Unfortunately, the short answer is no. The long answer is...engineering decided which systems would be validated for Windows 10 based on when those systems first shipped, then on the hardware, and then how much it would cost Dell in resources to write new bios and other drivers needed to support Windows 10. None of the laptops released prior to 2013 were validated.

Try a clean-install (uninstall old, reboot, install proper Alienware-CommandCenter, reboot) of good-stable release of AW-CC For AW Laptops on Windows7/64.

In Windows-10, install with "Windows-7 Compatibility Mode"

Download the proper "AW-CC for Laptops" file
Go to Properties and unBlock it
Double-click to start the extraction of the Zipped installer (notice where it extracts).
At the "Welcome to InstallShield Wizard for AWCC" screen (with Alienware symbol) cancel Install
If Windows asks if the program installed correctly, answer "Yes, it did".
Go to C:\Dell\Drivers\?????? folder and Right-Click on the setup.exe file
Right-click and select Troubleshoot Compatibility
After it finishes trying to "detect issues" select "Troubleshoot Program"
Check (only) the option "The program worked in earlier version of Windows but won't install now"
Select Windows-7, then click Next
In should now say "Settings applied to setup" Windows compatibility mode: Windows 7
Click "Test the Program" button and proceed through the installer in normal fashion
At the end of installer, select "I will reboot later"
Back in the "Program Compatibility Troubleshooter", click Next
Select "Yes, save the settings for this program" (since the installer worked fine so far)
It might try to detect additional issues. Then say "Incompatible program Fixed"
Click Close button
Reboot.

If this AW laptop would have been a bit newer, and had a version of AW-CC For Laptops validated for Windows-8, the above procedure would be the same, but substitute "Windows-8 Compatibility Mode" instead.

Hello Chris,

Thanks for the quick response, but bad news delivered quickly still leaves a lot to be desired. I wonder if they factored in the cost of the future lost business resultant from that no nonsense approach to their very over priced product. BUYER BEWARE written in bold. You too can spend twice as much as needed to get average and short lived support at best.

This'll be my first and last Alienware experience.

Way to go DELL for cheapening a once very cool product.

News Flash: People that pay extra sort of expect to receive 'extra'

Please pass that up the chain.
