FYI for all of us tired of these mouth breathers coming online to a delay forum to let us know they ordered, then got, their machines. To stop getting email updates every time a *** comes in to tell us without Dell laptops that he got his and is gloating like a 2 YEAR OLD...go to your subscriptions for the forums, choose to edit your profile and turn off the email updates so now you wont have to sign in to your home email to get 40 updates per min from Dells forums where ppl w IQs of 4 come to tell us they got their machine on time so they just happened to be cruising a delay forum to let us know....its really sad when Dell sends people to make forum comments to make it seem as though they are doing their jobs. Oh and my HP is still running strong...another mouth breather said Dell was better and worth the wait but so far it hasnt slowed the min i put a program/file on it like Dell does. Fast out of the box until you install ITunes or outlook then The average home Dell will take about 10 mins to open the program then give you an error message since they use cheap components that dont support the power of the processor..sorta like those power supplies they tried to use initially but then had to stop since it burned them out...way to go Dell!
I'm in the exact same boat! After several in-home repairs in less than 1 year on my XPS 730 (early Nov was the last breakdown), around the 3rd week of November they said they will do a system exchange (Alienware) in 7-10 business days. First week of Dec I called again and was told the order wasn't placed until December 1 and, again, 7-10 business days until shipping. December 21st, it was still being built (according to CS). Multiple promised ship dates follow.
I have made numerous phone calls, have had my call *escalated to the Escalation Team*, my complaint forwarded to the *Concern Department*, etc. I've been told there are no parts delays and no explanation and so forth. I finally filed a complaint, Jan 6, with the BBB in Austin, TX. It was forwarded to Dell that same day. A few days later Dell called from yet another specialty dept that handles BBB complaints. He said my order for an exchange wasn't actually placed until December 30th and I will receive my computer in 7-10 days. However, when I check the site, it says my order date is December 1st (go figure). Jan 11th, he calls back to say it will now ship 1/19. Of course, it never shipped. Now I'm waiting for Jan 28th (tomorrow). He did tell me that the intel processors were on back order and they are expecting them anyday and he promises that my computer will be one of the first built. So we will see what happens tomorrow.
My request to the BBB was that my computer be replaced OR pay off my balance with Dell Financial and refund my money and interest paid to date. (I am still making payments on computer that's been broken for almost 3 months and had it's hard drive and motherboard replaced and graphics cards go out twice in less than 1 year.)
And another thing.... (lol), about CS -- absolutely terrible. It takes me an average of 2 hours of being transferred around (and often to the same dept because the rep didn't know what to do about my problem so I get thrown back into the same queue and wait to get back to the same department). I've also been given a number to call from one rep in India, which I repeated and verified, was told it was a special hotline. I called and it was a CHAT HOTLINE!!!
UPDATE: Computer not shipping today. Received a call yesterday, with apologies, that the computer will not ship due to backordered parts. Also, she said she had no idea when it'll actually ship or when it even might possibly ship. Now I'm totally left hanging.
What is most troubling is that their Customer Service/Operations team don't seem to have a process where customers with egregiously long delays (ie. greater than 1 month from original deliver date) are contacted and informed of the reason for the delays. Certainly would add to cost and overhead, but I think by communicating clearly with customers they'd probably avoid a good number of the cancellations I bet they're seeing.
Arriva l#1: 12-04-09 Received the printer I ordered
Arrival #2: 12-07-09 Received the 2 mice I ordered
Delay #1: 01-18-10
Delay #2: 01-25-10
Delay#3 02-01-10
Delay#4 02-08-10 (They hit the "Delay by 1 week" button again.)
As you can see I was lucky enough to the the printer and mice that I ordered in record time.
I guess I'm too stubborn to cancel, but in reality their devious "Delay by 1 week" button worked on me and strung me along so long that I can not cancel now. I actually turned this into a game now. We started a pool at work now as to when they(yes "they", I ordered 2 laptops) will arrive. So now everyone at work will have a better idea where to order a computer from. At least we can be entertained by the delays.
Yeah I decided today to cancel and reorder. There is a special going on now, and it looks like the monitor I ordered is no longer an option (a newer 24" monitor has been released so that's fine). I have a feeling my order slipped through the cracks or possibly even the monitor not being available now could have something to do with it. I've been a long time Dell customer and I'm going to give this a second try. I know problems or mistakes happen...it seems nobody really knew what was going on with this order, but the CSR I talked to agreed that it was placed a long time ago and understood me canceling it. Like I said, I'm ordering again and I'll let you know how it goes :)
Just wanted to say my second order shipped without delay. My first order was placed in Oct, and was delayed numerous times. After the 3rd month of waiting I called and cancelled my order (the CSR was very understanding and admitted it was a much longer than normal delay). I think somehow my order either fell through the cracks, or some other issue happened with it. The second order I placed is in the hands of FedEx now. Can't wait to get my system. Best of luck to everyone else waiting on your systems.
I placed my second order on Jan 3rd, and it shipped on Jan 26th. Due to the icy weather here in Oklahoma, it looks like it's stuck at the FedEx hub in Ft. Worth. Which is fine with me, I'd definately not want to see anyone out on these roads right now that didn't absolutely need to be. That of course doesn't mean I'm not like a little kid impatiently waiting on his new toy!
The stats for the orginal computer I ordered are way back on one of the first few pages of this thread. The only thing different on my second order from my first are as follows:
- Display changed from the older 24" to the new U2410 24" - RAM changed from 1067Mhz DD3 to 1333Mhz DDR3 (ammount stayed the same at 6GB) - Had the option of free overclocking of the Core i7 920, so I went ahead and selected that (I'd have just done it myself if it didn't happen to be free at the time) - Decided to go with the black case instead of silver - Added the Steam factory install (in addition to WoW factory install) - Went with the TactX keyboard and mouse this time
With those changes and the new years special, I actually ended up spending slightly less :)

Yeah guys, no having discussions on a discussion forum!
(johnvince, you just made 2 replies. Did you try unchecking the "Email me replies to this post" checkbox immediately above the "Post" button?)

I received my Aurora last night - it was ordered on Jan 3 and delayed about a week from the original delivery date.
