Recently had this problem myself. You're probably also getting an error message with "AC adapter not supported" from nVidia.
Unfortunately this is like an issue with connection of the charging port of the computer with the motherboard, and can be fixed, but is recommended it's done professionally.

If another Dell adapter IS recognized but the battery will not charge, it's likely a bad battery.
Note: make sure you used an OEM Dell adapter. Non-Dell adapters will power but most often WILL NOT charge the battery.
