Dell Alienware vs Pre Dell Alienware.

All i could say here in summary is I am very very totally happy with Dell take over of Alienware:

Prices are reflective of market prices.

Phone Service very good now used to be horrible before, worse pre Dell. in 2009 Dell phone service was bad but nowhere near as bad as pre Dell Alienware. 2011 Dell phone service has improved dramatically.

Warranty with Dell Alienware is top notch they don't steal our money they actually will look after their customers. This sadly cant be said about pre Dell Alienware but thank God they are no longer operating.

However there will always be something that will go wrong and unfortunately it is not isolated to only Dell product. All that concerns aside, you are safe with Dell.

I tried to build my own PC with all the top notch parts and components money could buy, believe me it's a lot more expensive then Dell Alienware products. The only difference between building your own and buying Dellianware - warranty. Dellianware has warranty where as the parts you buy will be hard press trying to get any shops to replace the parts 11 months down the track.

I have had this problem before with warranty on parts I buy, all computer shops will not log your personal details down and which parts you bought. They rely on you losing your receipts so you will be hard pressed getting any warranty.

My conclusion, I will be buying more Alienware from Dell, very happy with their warranty that's my number concern.

I agree with starmage on this one. All computers can have problems and break etc. But how my case was handled by tech support was terrible. By watching the videos you posted the onsite technician you received was not qualified or just did not care about your computer. This is not an isolated incident. I have a way worse story with my technician. I will be taking my business elsewhere and if something breaks I fix it myself. The warranty means nothing to me now, sadly that was the only reason I bought it instead of building one :(. I never owned a Pre-Dell but I dont know how it could be worse. Uncertified on site "part swappers" plus outsourced tech support. No thanks. I was a Dell fan for years too, when they economy took a hit so did the quality.

A lot of this has to do with expectations...

An anology might be going to a restaurant where you pay $50/course.  You expect silver platter service in such arestaurant and you're probably more than likely to not expect to have food poisoning the next day.  Of course, the Chinese restaurant down the corner that $20 banquet for 2, chipped plates and a dirty table you are likely to have different expectations.

Same goes for buing a PC.  The $1500 machine that comes prebuilt at the shops you would probably expect it to be ok and run smoothly but if it has issues you're probably likely to bee expecting it somewhere along the line.  Spending $5000 + (as I did) on an Alienware that failed 4 hours after arrival and 3 months later is sitting around useless is not within the basic expectation (at least not for me).

Saying it has to happen sometimes is all good and well, but how it happens, why it happens and how it's handled are all part of the expecation too and at such a premium I would expect differently.

Come on please!  I've built many systems now,  and it's WAY cheaper to build your own tower than to buy an AlienWare comp. I bought my Alien because it's a show piece in my shop. This whole thread reeks of false flag.....dell lip service. DOH!!!!!!

i tried to buy myself an asus motherboard forgot what it's called but they were going to charge me almost $2000 usd for that mother board, $2000 for 980x i7 extreme cpu, $3000 for dual ati 5970 gpu  :( how is building myself the best computer cheaper than alienware?

Dont worry i am not dell's lip service but i feel sorry for dell only because i know how business operates. They out source technical work this is a formula for disaster and bad reputation. Hence in my case Dell suffered because of the dodgy outsourcing.

i feel for everyone because i know first hand what's it's like to get ripped off. I was out of pocket $20,000 USD because Alienware Australia 2009 ran off refused to fix my computers because i had it for 2 weeks.

Anyway i am just seeing things differently but i know Dell failed because of outsourcing. It's a terrible mistake i hope they will have their own workshop.

It's so easy for dodgy people to make false CV/Resume then apply for jobs.

I mean how many dodgy geeks think to themselves "OK i need a job I can't survive just sitting here playing WoW for 10 years" "lets make a fake Resume and become a techie"? I bet most of these dodgy technies are WoW players lol.

It's so easy to install water cooling now.

I think i can build one myself really easily now.

You can use Newegg/Tiger Direct/whathaveyou and build a nice system for under $1000. It may not be top of the line cutting edge stuff (which they also sell) though. Tech prices drop quickly, so that $600 video card will be $200 in 6 months and something better will have come out. Trying to always buy the latest and greatest is not wise financially. Any game coming out now will run fine on 6 month old components. Futureproofing in computers doesn't exist. Even one of these $5000 Alienware systems will only be cutting edge for a few months (and cost twice as much as one built from Newegg/Tiger Direct/whathaveyou using the same core components).

But, people who can't build or fix their own systems is why companies like Alienware still exist. I think it's good because it enables those without computer knowledge to still do PC gaming.

I've always built my own tower for gaming, I'm only here for the m11x.

No, it won't be top of the line and to me it wouldn't even be a "nice system". My i7 980x alone costs that much no matter where you go and its been out close to a year. The 980x was $1000 and guess what? it's still $1000.  And prices do not drop that much, that fast, for video cards. My Gtx 480 is selling for between $400 and $500 bucks right now. Yeah..sure did drop in price didn't it? Just because something better has come out it doesn't mean you can buy it for 1/3 the price in 6 months. And buying the best you can afford will keep your computer up to date much longer then that $1000 system that WAS junk and outdated the day you bought it.

But, people who can't afford their own Alienware system is why companies like Newegg/Tiger Direct/whathaveyou still exists. I think it's good because it enables those without the wealth or income to still do PC gaming.

I've always bought my own tower for gaming, I only go to Newegg/Tiger Direct/whathaveyou for cheap netbooks.

Sorry, I just spit Coke all over my keyboard. Are you serious? I really can't tell. This reads more of a satire of typical Alienware customers than it does a serious PC user. Enjoy paying an extra $2500 for a special LED-infested case while my sub-$1000 "junk" runs games just as well.

Sorry, I just spit Mountain Dew all over my keyboard. Are you serious? I really can't tell. This reads more of a satire of typical built-it-yourself customers than it does a serious PC user. Enjoy paying an extra $1000 a year upgrading your sub-par system just to play games on minimum settings while my Alienware runs all games for the next few years at max settings.

Now excuse me while I go veg out looking at my LED-infested case.

Ooo let me get my popcorn!

Seriously though, there are upsides and downsides to both. For my laptop, I decided to go Alienware. If I want a desktop, I'll see how things are. Like as not, I'll build one. If I have the capital laying around, I'll get another Alienware. *shrug*.

Still, this is funny, I want to watch.

Those cases will surely go down as one of mankind's greatest crimes. So hideous.

Who can top these classic cases ? Not any build it yourself. And when the warranty is gone , If i like the case I 'll re-do the guts.
