Disable Console Mode (Auto-Start Desktop Mode) Alienware Alpha

I am having one heck of a time trying to answer one very simple question. I would have thought this would have been a basic FAQ answered question but apparently no one is asking it. How do I disable the auto-start up in console mode on my Alpha? I just want it to start in desktop mode now. Alpha is neat but it is a little buggy and difficult to work with. (I have already setup the system to boot in console mode and updated it to the latest version.)

The following are NOT answers to my question:

"Just go into console mode, then exit into desktop."

"Why did you buy this if all you want to do is go into desktop mode?"

1. as your non-alpha UI user, go to a run prompt (Windows key + R)

2. Type 'control userpasswords2' ('netplwiz' should also work)

3. Check the box for “Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer".

That's it :)

I just modified the password from Local Users & Groups (lusrmgr.msc).

Everything works fine. I re-enabled auto log in since the hivemind update (which is a lot better than Alpha UI - thanks Alienware!)

Also, the logitech K400 wireless keyboard/touchpad has proven to be immensely valuable. I bought it a couple of years ago and it's been collecting dust. It's the perfect companion for this alienware alpha. just FYI.

you can go into msconfig and see if you can disable the program that starts automatically.  Access windows search and type in msconfig then I believe the start up tab and find the program that runs the console mode.  If you don't want to use console mode at all, go to add/remove programs and just uninstall it.  Unfortunetly I do not know what the program name is :-( but that should be a good place to start.

Question:

Once i perform the above, how do i login to the alpha UI user ? It needs a password which i don't have.

Can i just modify the password of the alpha UI user ? Will it break anything ?

Just to clarify on the K400 keyboard - I use it for navigating through windows. I would not recommend it for gaming.
