Driver updates off Dell web site.

The "Intel Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework" driver was shown as available on Nov 9th. The automatic driver finder does not show it as an available driver software for my R2 15.

The device manager lists this driver but says the device driver is not installed. Is this a driver that should have been installed on the laptop or not?

Generally, I only update a driver to fix a specific issue. For example, I would never install a Bios update just because it was newer. Are you having an issue to correct?

so why is dell posting new drivers?

newer does not mean improvement?

Ignoring your attacking tone/statement this one time. No, newer does not always mean necessary to all users. Because there are multiple hardware and software configurations and usage scenarios, a newer driver may not apply to every user of that model. Also I did preface my statement with, "I only update a driver...". So simply stating my usage of driver updates. But as with any driver, a user can install it, test, and if need be, roll back to the previous version.

ignore dell website.

just download driver booster or go into device manager and look up the updates manually.

The "Intel Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework" driver was shown as available on Nov 9th is an old version. driver booster found a newer version.

Sorry I didn't respond earlier Chris, I was out of town for a few days.

No issues I'm aware of that seem to require an update but the difference here is that while the Intel Dynamic platform and Thermal Framework is found in my Device Manager its properties say no driver is installed on my laptop. So when I saw the update on the Dell site I was curious as to whether or not it should have been installed from the factory, whether or not it was removed by some other Windows update, or since it appears to not be installed now is it even necessary.

I'm not even sure what purpose the driver has or what it drives at this point so I have not installed it unless you think the absence of the driver on my system requires the driver to be installed.

Thanks
