Ethernet Driver needed

Hi All;

I have an Alienware Area 51 (model) m766SN0 that I just got, I have put Windows XP Professional on it, but it can't find the Drivers for the Ethernet Hardware, and so It can't connect to the Dell Download Center..

I would need to use another computer to get the necessary file(s) and copy then to a Usb Stick and Transfer them..

What's funny is I can and have used both UBUNTU and Linux Mint and they have the necessary Drivers to connect to the Internet..

Does anyone have the  DVD Windows XP  Professional that they could make a copy of for me ??

I got it working, but downloading the Diagnostic, via a stick, and ran it.. And that told me what I had..

I then looked that up on my other machine and I got the correct Driver, I now am downloading 145 updates..

THANK YOU Marty

Hi All;

I think I got it almost all completely working..

When I go to the Dell site on it, the browser (I think) is still too old for the site to work correctly..

Or else it is that it is just a too old of a machine..

And I don't have the eyes working any more, I looked for that and the Answer that was given didn't help..

THANK YOU Marty

This model is not Dell but Prior to Dell Acquiring Alienware.

Windows XP is no longer sold or supported.

Hi All;

Thank You SpeedStep for Your Answer..

I did know that Windows XP is not officially Supported.. But,

I did not know that this Model was before Dell Acquiring Alienware..

So, That still leaves me and possibly others like me who have an Old Machine, to where Do we go to get Drivers for these Machines.. If No one here can help us, then who can ??

Having Loaded XP Professional and having 199 updates, would lead me to think that I have almost all that Would have come with this machine, Except for things like having the "eyes" working again..

The way I got the Driver I needed was I Loaded the Diagnostic and it told me what model I had of the Ethernet Card..

I was able to look that up on another machine and find a Driver that Worked, out of the three that I got.. And the same goes for the rest of what my machine has for Hardware, But, the "eyes" and in a different category, which Is why I am asking for Information here at this Forum..

I figure that there should be someone here that could Help me.. I apologize for my Rant..

THANK YOU Marty..

I'm not familiar with that model (maybe you could link to a pic of it). However, it sounds like an "Alienware Legacy" model or pre-Dell.

Try Origin computers forums. Some others might have those still running (even after 8 plus years).

Oh.

Well, it's kinda cool it still works (although I bet the battery doesn't so it's not portable any more) but ...

... what would it be good for any more. What's the "use case"?

I have a closet-full of old "still-working" laptops. However, unless they are dual-core and running Windows-7 or better, I have no use for them. Other than Goodwill (which I need to do), I can't even give-them-away to someone who will actually use them.

For $100, you can get a used or refurbished laptop much nicer than this (with a working battery). For $250, you can get a new laptop or a really nice refurbished one that retailed for $2000 just a few years ago.

Hi All;

SpeedStep, Thank You for the Information, and the Pictures, (Yes, it is the same except for Color, as mine..) Mine is Silver in Color..

""  This model is DDR ancient vacuum tube model. ""

I don't know what You mean by this as these do not have Vacuum Tubes in them.. I assume it's a figure of speech..

Do You have A Windows XP DVD that came with this unit, that You could make a Copy of For me..

Also, Thank You for the Nvidia model number, I will look that up in this computer for a driver..

Tesla1856, Thank You for Your Reply..

And I could be Wrong, but my guess is that You Don't Understand about Preserving these older Machines..

But, why Spend the Money especially that I don't have for a newer unit that I don't need..

I have a Desktop that I Inherited from a friend when He Upgraded to something Newer for His Business..

So, this should last me for some Years to come, and by then He will probably have another machine for me..

In my somewhat spare time I like working on my Old Machines, I have an Altair 8800, with two 8 Inch Hard Sector Floppies and 64 K of Ram, Which Runs just fine..

I have a Digital Equipment Corp., PDP 11/45 made about 1972 or 1973 that I am in the Process of trying to make it work..

I have an old (I can't remember what Brand) 486 PC and a 286 machine as well..

And some other Old Machines, that I have Preserved from the Dump..

So, Thank You to Both of You for Your Input..

THANK YOU Marty

1. Quite the contrary ... I totally get it.

Did you get signed up at https://niche.originpc.com/ yet? Somebody might have drivers or original "drivers disk".

Try eBay or that forum for a genuine Windows-XP (32bit) CDROM. I don't think it needs to be "Alienware" branded or "tattooed" to work. I am a little surprised that you like to do this but don't have a real Windows-XP CDROM already.

2. I understand. I like to keep working machines out of the landfill also. Difference is, I DoD erase them, reload fresh OS and drivers, and donate them to charity.

3. Back when I had "free time", yeah ... I did similar. Now, I do stuff like help here instead or game. I still have my "board level repair" skills, so I'm not limited to just computers these days.

That's a nice collection.

I kept my (loaded and expanded with Ram and HDD) Amiga-500 system running all these years. Even the Amiga CRT worked. But how many computers can I keep setup? I recently finally gave it to an Amiga user because he promised to use it for something useful. Plus, I can emulate Amiga on Win-Tel faster than the Amiga 500's Motorola 68000.

Tesla1856, Sorry my Bad, I don't mean to offend.. I am Glad You UnderStand..

No, Thank You, I'LL try them..

I have a few flavors of Windows XP DVD's, But, I don't have an Alien Specific Windows XP DVD..

Which is How I got the Version of XP on this machine.. And it works fine Except for the "eyes"..

Before about a week ago I Never Heard of Alienware, when I got this machine, it had no Software with it and No Power Supply.. It was given to me..

I Just Saw on Ebay, an Alienware area 51 766SN3 for sale with all of it's Origional Software, Cd's etc.. for $400.00

I just Don't have that Kind of Money.. Otherwise I would Buy it Right Now..

Also, I am wondering what is the Difference between 766SN0 and an 766SN3 ??

 "" That's a nice collection. ""

THANK YOU !!

The Vacuum Tube remark is an attempt at sarcasm.   The  US Navy still uses vacuum tubes in targeting computers for the 16 inch guns on battle ships etc.

They found out that transistors or solid state devices are fried with EMP or

Nuclear blast.  They use nuvistor tubes that were introduced in 1959.

As long as you have an XP COA you can use an OEM Dell XP CD to reinstall.

Dell is not allowed to distribute them anymore nor are any Resellers.  And No I'm not able to "copy" any OS cd and give to you.
